I'm planning on writing an anthology fanfict - no OCs, just a group of short stories no longer than a chapter - about the dragon-human war.

When people think about the second or first DH wars, all they see is a big, red battlefield and some random black silhouettes scuttling about. That's plain superficial. War is made of battles, and all the peacetimes, arguments and scuffles in between.

I'm trying to write a group of stories, each differing in viewpoint, each about a faction of the war. White Royal Air Force, Red Army, Green tank squadron? All the while alluding to real wars fought before.

EDIT: Thanks for the support, guys! C: It's amazing to see the support the fict's going to get - definitely more than I would have hoped!

Sure, I'm interested in the first Dragon-Human war. In fact, I think it's safe to say that most fans would be as well. There has a been a lot of speculation about what was happening exactly during the war in the various threads here, along with a couple of questions to The Magna Draconis during our Q&A rounds about this. So definitely write about it! CainSmiley.gif

Hooray for luffin' the DH War! I'll try to get the first two chapters up by next week.

Tain't sexism, Cal, 'tis a statistic. (I'll give you a cookie if you know which classic that came from. XD )

There was a consumer statistic on military games I saw recently; apparently, girls make up only 30% of the people who buy war video games. I'm trying to see whether it's the same for fanfiction.

Your use of the word "definitely" is not a "trying to see". Sorry. Your gender stereotyping was not intended as a social experiment.

Either edit your first post with an apology and remedy, or modly powers will see this topic deleted. This space != democracy.

Listen, I'm sorry, I didn't think I'd offend you. Just for the record: I'm a girl. Stereotyping women is that last thing I'd want to do.

This might make me seems like an orator, but I think you're misinterpreting what I meant to say. There's no what I'd want to think of you, or me, or any other woman out there as an ignorant female incapable of understanding the complexities of war.

Just one word, 'definitely', and I'm a sexist? One word, and one would think I am incapable of believing the general populace of women, of which I am a part of, would, as I do, enjoy the complexities of war?

I typed in that word unthinkingly - and I know am deserving of being reprimanded for it - but to call me a bigot against my own gender and to say am I am against democracy for a hasty generalisation is a generalization on your part as hasty as mine.

And, though I understand the belief that women show little interest in war is merely a hasty generalization - as proven in your interests for the Byzantines and mine for the Venetians, Mao, and the Bolsheviks - but one must see it as holding a bead of truth when viewed in the light of women's interests.

To say that all women hate war, all women are generally stupid beings incapable of understanding war and all it entails, all women show a lack of interest for the subject is a blatant and horrendous lie. The truth is this: some women like war, some women are capable of understanding war, some woman show great interest for the subject. But ever more so the truth, as I have said before, is that most women, according to statistics, don't fall into the category of 'some'.

This thread was an attempt on my part to see just how many 'somes' exist here in this board. How many 'somes' share my, and your, interests. How many 'somes' out there want to read a story this one 'some' wrote for the rest of the 'somes' to see.

According to statistics, there aren't many 'somes' out there. And it's definetly comforting to find, in this board, so many wonderful, like-minded individuals like yourself.

A single word, 'definitely', was typed without consideration, as I was believing in the statistics that lend truth to the belief of 'most', and suddenly this 'some' becomes one of the people who can't see the truth?

I don't know whether that's an apology or a justification, but just for this once, see me as a woman, and not a chauvinist. I don't want to make enemies, not on a forum that I love, so please, I ask of you, don't find offense in what was meant to be a neutral statement to begin with.

You made a sexist remark; this does not speak for the whole person. Thank you for editing your post as requested. In this particular female community, I do not think it is appropriate to make broad stereotypes and implications that will probably drive off women from reading your work, and as a moderator I will stop that and other inappropriate stereotyping when I notice it. Please do not assume that one mistake will paint you with a scarlet letter for life. I'm not interested in continuing this debate further, so please return to your writing.

I'm currently typing chapter two. I find it's easier if I keep one chapter ahead of submitting. Am I the only one who does that?

Not at all. I always write several chapters ahead to make sure it's going to connect right before posting and allow me to go back and change things if need be. I've been working on a new story for some time now and I've got about 10 chapters written so far. I've got some gaps to fill in between some of them, so I won't be posting any of it until it comes together more. Hopefully within a few more months. CainSmiley.gif
