Title: Arena Battle RP
Description: Should we have one?

I was at another forum a while ago, right? Well, they this thing called an Arena RP. Basically, players made a character and selected from a list of skills they could use in battle, and one or two traits that were passive effects on their character. The Arena Blademaster (the RP was influenced by both Oblivion and Super Smash Bros.) was the one to determine who won each battle if after the time limit one of the two combatants had not been finished off.

I was thinking to perchance make an RP using this basic shell (but completely different of course - or else I wouldn't get all the fun of making up abilities and effects and magicks and arenas and all that cool jazz. The one issue is this:

I want to know if anyone here is even interested in something like this? It's a rare concept I don't see much, and it's life seems to differ radically in each different forum I've seen it.

In case it helps you think a little, I was thinking of something like this as a plot (no, I'm not making a never-ending RP here):

Such and Such (the Arena Blademaster) is branded a "Demonick". A Demonick is someone who is doomed to be possessed with the soul of a demon when they reach the age of 30. The only way to remove the brand is to absorb energy from the crystals embedded in the foreheads of 10 greatly powerful devils. (a bit cliche, but it gets better.) So, Such and Such starts a tournament of strength and mettle, offering rewards of items and gold to the winners. Combatants come from near and far with the promise of gold; you are among them, though your reasons are known only to yourself. Do you happen to know that the Blademaster is a Demonick and plan to kill him before he is possessed? Are as greedy as the others and wanting the gold? Do you simply wish to become stronger? Or do you revel in bloodshed? Or perhaps you're simply cocky and this seems like an excellent place to showcase your ego.

For the most part, the story would progress as characters gain gold and "Prestige", the former of which can be used to buy items for use in matches, and the later of which can be using to change or even add new abilities to your character. Both forms of "currency", for lack of a better term, can be credited (from anyone - all credits will be cumulative for all characters) towards locked abilities, arenas, items, anything, which will then be available for characters to use upon unlocking.

Well, that's how I'd gauge the progression, I mean. How it would actually progress are through Tourneys. Tourneys will almost always change how matches are fought, and the finale will be fought in the presence of a great creature (one of the 10 powerful devils the story spoke of earlier) which the players participating in the battle can team up against or aim for the win by attacking both the creature and the other players.

However, there is a catch. I will ad in the chance to notice that Blademaster is a Demonick on occasion. Your character, knowing this, could attempt to kill him if would wish to, or they can try to help progress through Events faster. In either case, the RP would ideally end with either the Blademaster's death or the removal of his Demonick brand. Upon successful brand removal, he would disband the tournament. Characters can react to this however they wish. They could try to riot, try to start a free-for-all, try to shank the Blademaster, skip away happily, whatever takes your fancy.

In simple terms, the story's been set on a non-linear path. I am simply a guiding light in an open-ended story which will be determined by its players.

Sound interesting? Or should I scrap it?
