Prologue

The three kings of the Digital World, Ogre of Earth, Amatsu of Wind, and Bishop of Fire reigned equally, valiantly, and honorably. A golden era of prosperity blanketed the land; an era that was quickly demolished by the efforts a human.

On another world parallel to the Digital World, Earth spun round and its inhabitants prospered. Humans went about their everyday lives, not believing for a moment that life existed on another world, let alone another planet. But to a few, it was only a matter of finding a way to another world rather than if it existed.

Those who believed in another world worked around a code that would allow them access, but none could break it. It was the work of a Japanese girl named Serenity Somnia that broke through the barrier between Earth and the Digital World. Under the belief that Earth was corrupt and riddled with war, she tore through hundreds of books, manuals, and programs that allowed her to hack. Serenity was driven by a selfish desire to leave behind her own world, and enter a world free of humans where she could at last find peace.

Laboring for hundreds of sleepless nights in a super-human attempt to beat the unbeatable, she was able to break the code, but she corrupted it; bending it to her will. She used every ounce of her skill, utilizing every trick she knew; and after nearly a decade of sleeplessness

The girl, known as Serenity Somnia, now had the power to enter this new world at will. But she chose not to go; she, instead, chose to prepare.

With the barrier between two worlds in pieces, the data of the Digital World began to corrupt. A sudden stream of darkness infected several thousand Digimon, as well as the very center of the Digital World known as the DigiCore.

The three kings saw what was happening to their world, and made every effort to maintain order, but chaos broke out, and those corrupted Digimon turned on their former kings and waged war upon them. While trying to convert the corrupted back, Orge became infected and corrupted, forcing him to slide evolve from a WarGreymon to a BlackWarGrey.

Almost immediately, the tide of the war shifted, and Ogre gathered an army of the corrupted. The BlackWarGreymon led them into battle with the notion that the kings forgot them; that they were unimportant to higher agenda.

He quickly convinced them that Amatsu and Bishop were the ones who had been corrupted, and called for a Holy War. Amatsu and Bishop met with the one they once called ‘Brother’, and the final showdown for the fate of their beloved Digital World began.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Serenity Somnia saw an opportunity and was finally ready for her departure to the Digital World. Unaware of the bloody conflict on the other side, she crossed the breach between the two worlds.

Unbeknownst to her, her twin, Reido, and her older brother, Yume, caught wind of her plan. Not willing to let their sister shut herself off, they leapt through the portal after her, all three humans landing in a small village untouched by war, a village full of strange eggs.

King Ogre didn’t leave King Amatsu and King Bishop with much choice. They were forced to delete their ally. The weight of their actions that day would hang on their shoulders for many years to come, but they hoped that Ogre, along with each of the corrupted Digimon would be reborn someday.

The remaining kings were hurt very badly, and decided to go into hiding; leaving the charge of protecting the Digital World to their Generals.

The blackened soul of data that was once Ogre streamed through the land. As all deleted Digimon do, he headed for Primary Village where the three Somnia siblings landed. It sensed a soul far stronger, and darker, than that of any Digimon.

It sensed the soul of the sleepless Serenity Somnia; filled with hate, anger, and most importantly, anguish. As the girl stood arguing with her brothers, Ogre’s soul slammed into hers at full force. A single body can only hold so much in it, so the corrupt soul was fractured into two pieces: One found an egg to incubate in, and the other was forever bound to the soul of Serenity. In that very instant, an evil unlike any the Digital World had seen before was created.

The sheer force of two souls colliding ripped Primary Village apart, flinging pieces of land far into the air. Yume and Reido clung to one such piece, and the only two eggs that remained intact rolled into their care.

Then, as it had been programmed to do, the scattered pieces reformed themselves, in their proper order and alignment. It was as though time itself had been reset, at least from the perspective of the land.

The explosion had flung Serenity and the egg to an unknown part of the Digital World. The brothers mourned their sister’s likely death, even though neither had been especially close to the girl. Reido, her twin, was especially pained. The two, seeing no other option, took the eggs and began their own adventure within the strange new world. Struggling to find a way home, the two would not find such solace, as their Digimon partners grew and aided them through troubling times.

She didn’t know how she survived her fall, but she didn’t care. The girl known as Serenity was no more; she stripped away her old identity and was been reborn under the name Insomnia.

However, her newfound power came with an unfortunate and ironic price. Although she could effectively shape the Digital World to her will, she would never again know the sweet embrace of sleep or friendship. Driven mad, she continued tampering with ‘her’ world, creating a region known as the Dark Ocean.

As she hacked further and further into the Digital World, the very fabric of time and space began to warp, the bridge between worlds began to widen, and human children began appearing in large numbers.

The brothers Somnia, upon hearing this, had different reactions. Upon becoming aware of Insomnia’s presence; they soon figured out that the evil menace was their little sister, and have been working to find a way to enter the Dark Ocean

As more and more humans arrived, they were awarded a Digimon partner. The inevitable connection a tamer and partner share cannot be explained, but it has proven to be essential in the fight to regain control of the Digital World. The sides of light and dark reach out their hands to incoming humans to increase their numbers, and at some point, the arms race with erupt into a battle that will decided who will rule the Digital World.

Recently, Insomnia’s wrath spilled out into the public eye as she sent Ogre, her trusted partner, and an army of Digimon and tamers to attack Digital City, an establishment where humans and Digimon can live together. Tamers and Digimon of light stepped in to thwart the attack, but not before the city acquired some damage. Now that she has made her presence known, war has erupted in the Digital World once again, and Insomnia will not stop until the Digital World is hers. If she cannot sleep, she will make all suffer.

Only the Generals know where King Amatsu and King Bishop hide, but they will keep their kings safe until the time comes to reveal themselves to Ogre, and now Insomnia, once more. As for the tamers that continue to appear in the Digital World; fate has been kind to put human and Digimon together, but the time will come for humans to play their part in this war. Which side will they choose?
