Title: More Is More

Trial - January 13, 2011 12:51 AM (GMT)
Tamer Name: Quinn Shi
Digimon Species: Piyomon
Battle Type: Hologram
Field Area: Random

7000 - 50 = 6950

"Didn't we just come here two days ago?" She asked with a strange expression that wasn't exactly a frown. Just... confused, and a little annoyed. Yeah, getting shot twice by high pressure water the last time she was here wasn't exactly a great first impression

"Yeah, but we could always use more practice." The brilliantly pink bird Digimon standing next to her said happily.

The girl paused and turned to look at her partner incredulously. "Please tell me you're not... enjoying these battles. And haven't you heard that 'less is more?'"

"Less isn't more. More is more." She whined and then parroted easily. "I'm not enjoying these battles." Quinn sighed; the Piyomon sounded too cheerful for those words to be true. But now that they were here, they might as well come in for a hologram battle. The bird Digimon glanced at her human. "You know, we're going to keep on doing these battles until you're at least confident enough to take on other tamers." She said softly.

Quinn did a double take. "Wh- What!?" She said weakly. "What do you mean I have to take on other tamers? We're... We're humans. We don't fight. Some of us can't fight."

"Sorry, I meant fighting other tamer's Digimon." Kateri's blue eyes dulled as she drifted into thought. For a moment Quinn wanted to ask why that was so important; there was no problem that can't be solved with peace, and she was pretty sure that just about any other human would agree. Were the humans in Digital World somehow different from those back home? No, the girl decided. People were people, no matter where they were.

In the end, Quinn decided not to press the matter. The pair had been spending every waking moment together for the last two days, and Kateri probably needed some space and fresh air. Today, she would follow the Piyomon's lead and humor her.

The two stepped onto the Training Field together for the second time, patiently waiting for the holograms to load.

((okay, I asked in the cbox and since there was no takers for this thread after two days, I'm modding you.))

The field started to warp and change, the skies gently forming into a pretty shade of blue, clouds dotting the area before a cube formed around Quinn. She was suspended in midair, but the cube was safe - Kateri was just outside the cube, in the skies that any and all bird digimon could call home.

"Tempest Wiiiing!"

Enveloped in a tornado, a holsmon shot out from a mass of clouds, spinning violently towards Kateri, attempting to shred her to pieces with the sharp blades of its helm!

Trial - January 27, 2011 03:29 AM (GMT)
Liquid glow filled up twelve thin white beams, sketching out a perfect cube spanning a couple of meters around Quinn. The faces were clear but solid; well, at least the girl knew the bottom was becasue she was standing on it with nothing visible under feet. She haven't tested the other faces, but she figured there was no reason why one side would feel different from another if they all looked the same.

Her suspicion was confirmed by what was likely the worst possible way. Holsmon's attack caught Kateri off guard; the sharp blades sent the smaller Digimon shooting through the air and pressed flat against one of the cube's faces. Quinn flinched, instinctively jumping out of the way even though the Piyomon projectile couldn't have touched her.

Look on the bright side, she thought wryly. At least I'm not going to choke on water or hurt in any way this time.

Piyomon quickly recovered and got back on her wings again. Translucent green flames spiraled outward from her body toward Holsmon as she shouted the name of her attack. "Magical Fire!"

Redtide - January 28, 2011 12:52 PM (GMT)
The holsmon's tornado dissipated a mere inch away from the cube, and it swept itself upwards and away from the cage that contained Quinn. Its massive claws scraped the topmost edges of the container mercilessly, and the sound that emanated within it was terrible.

"Mach Impulse," pronounced the armor-leveled digimon. It took a sharp dive from its present altitude, a shockwave starting to generate from the mild vibrations of its helm-wings. Soon, trailing it was a distinct wave of compressed air - it split the spiraling flames of emerald as the holsmon sped below Kateri, allowing its trailing shockwave to slice cleanly into one of her wings, should she be careless enough to allow it to hit. While it wouldn't hurt that much, she would certainly have her maneuverability take a severe hit.

Trial - January 31, 2011 08:59 PM (GMT)
Inside the cube, Quinn watched the fight with a small scowl in her brows. Her hands shook uncontrollably; the larger bird had scared her awfully when it approached the cube; it came close enough for the girl to see the white of its eyes. Then Quinn relaxed into an expressionless trance; in her fist was the card she had just used.

Name: Matador Dance
Number: C56
Type: Weapon
Duration: Remainder of the battle
Effect: Grants the user’s Digimon a 10% bonus in agility, a red cape that can be used to block or dodge one attack, and a small sword that can cause 10 points of damage. Both items disappear as soon as they connect with the opponent, but the agility bonus lasts for the whole battle.

A red cape materialized out of thin air and blocked Holsmon's attack, and then dissipated upon impact to reveal the Piyomon with a small sword in her wing. The Child Digimon raised her arm and flung the sword at her opponent.

Redtide - February 1, 2011 05:16 AM (GMT)
In a swift motion, holsmon evaded the sword-based attack by performing a barrel roll to the right - and surged forth just as suddenly. Wind streaked by it as a tornado started to form at the tip of its helm, and violently spinning, it headed straight for the piyomon with a Tempest Wing!

Trial - February 7, 2011 02:38 PM (GMT)
"Magical Fire!" The Piyomon shouted, flapping her wings furiously to generate another blast of spiraling green flames at Holsmon. To the the challengers' horror, the Armor Digimon reached Kateri before the flames could be fully ignited. The Child Digimon gave an agonizing scream as Tempest Wing tore into her.

Bits of data burst from Kateri as her scream was reduced into a soft groan. The pink bird had lost consciousness, her wings stiff and unmoving, almost as if she was... Quinn could not finish that thought. The girl watched helplessly inside the cube as her partner dropped like a rock, becoming smaller and smaller as she fell further and further away.

She couldn't help but to wonder if this was the end. It probably would have been too, unless...

Name: Teddy Bear
Number: U41
Type: Multi-Target
Duration: 1 Turn
Effect: The affected Tamer and his/her Digimon partner(s) transform into cuddly stuffed animals for one post. While in this state, they all regain 50% of their health, and cannot be attacked nor use attacks themselves.

While the idea of being transformed into stuff animals did not appeal to Quinn in the slightest, it was still better than the alternative. At least she thought so at the time. The card was read by the D-Ban, and the girl found herself transformed into a stuffed beagle wearing a dull red scarf. She wanted to see what had happened to Kateri, but she couldn't turn her neck while she was a stuffed animal. Bummer.

Redtide - February 8, 2011 04:33 AM (GMT)
Briefly confused by the sudden change in tempo of the battle, the holsmon raised a metaphorical eyebrow as it scaled higher in altitude. Its target was gone, disappearing into the clouds and deep down into the earth.

Bored, it circled the air.

Trial - February 21, 2011 08:59 PM (GMT)
The effect of the card wore off and Quinn was back into her normal body again. She immediately jumped up and peered down the floor of the cube to see what had happened to Kateri- that fifteen second of helplessness had her terribly worried about the pink bird.

She could see nothing but the clouds beneath her. "Kateri!" She called out, but the sound of her voice was muffled by the wall.

The girl paced around the cube anxiously. Well, that card had been a fairly dumb idea. Several minutes had passed, but there was absolutely nothing happening on the field. The Holsmon soared and did nothing, and Kateri was no where to be seen.

Great. She was trapped in the simulation. The face of her palms brushed against the glass as she searched for some kind of... reset button. Or exit. Or something. But there seemed to be none; the cube was smooth and cold to the touch, like glass.

The girl kicked the cube and winced. Of all things... she was trapped in the cupboard cube and she didn't like it one bit.
---

Somewhere near the surface of the holographic earth, the bird Digimon was stirring awake. She groaned and squinted; the feel of solid ground beneath her seemed alien but strangely comforting. She frowned. "Where am I?"

Memories rushed back to her as she pulled herself up from the ground. There had been a training battle... and then she had been hit, hard. The pain in her chest was numb and dulled. And Quinn had used a healing card, didn't she? Was the battle over? They lost, didn't they? But where was her tamer?

Up.

With a steady beat of wings, she rose into the air.

It was going to be a long flight, but she had no other choice.

Redtide - February 22, 2011 04:57 AM (GMT)
And yet, there was still nothing for the holsmon to do. It settled upon the cube Quinn was in lazily.

Trial - March 11, 2011 12:24 AM (GMT)
She was tired from the flight, but there had been no other choice. Kateri finally caught sight of the cube that held her tamer captive and the Holsmon. Approaching her opponent slowly and cautiously, the Child Digimon tensed and prepared herself.

"Twilight Timer! LadyDevimon's Gift!" Quinn ran the two cards through her D-Ban as soon as she spotted Kateri. She grinned. "Welcome back! Now go get it, Kateri!"

Name: Twilight Timer
Number: C39
Type: Single Target
Duration: 1 Turn
Effect: Completely immobilises one opponent Digimon for a single turn.

Name: LadyDevimon's Gift
Number: U14
Type: Single Target
Duration: Remainder of the battle
Effect: Increases the affected Digimon’s speed, as well as the strength of its next attack, by 50% each.

Kateri dashed forward, her entire body covering with fire as she dove at Holsmon. "Piyorin Attack!"

Redtide - March 11, 2011 10:21 AM (GMT)
It was nothing more than a sitting duck upon the cube as the effects of the magical timer took effect. Groaning, the holsmon was forced to stay where it was - and it shrieked horribly when the other bird digimon crashed into it with a fierce attack where she was completely covered in flames.

Needless to say, it hurt. The eagle digimon, despite this setback, was still very much in the fight.

Trial - March 13, 2011 06:30 PM (GMT)
Kateri wasted no time switching gears and into her next attack. "Spiral Wing!" She jumped back a little, then cartwheeled into Holsmon, trying to slice Holsmon with her wings.

Quinn stopped pacing inside the cube. Even though she thought they might lose this battle yet, the knowledge of Kateri's location melted her anxiety away. She was starting to get used being around the bird Digimon. Was this a good thing or bad? She wondered.

Right now, it didn't matter; since when did she have time to reflect on things during a freaking battle anyway? She threw the question into her mental rumen. Maybe one day she would chew on it again. Or maybe just forget about it all together.

Redtide - March 24, 2011 08:11 AM (GMT)
The holsmon took flight, allowing the piyomon's attack to miss it cleanly. It swooped around, and sped towards Kateri - finally sliding just a little to the left in order to slice into her with its Tempest Wing technique.

Trial - March 24, 2011 11:03 PM (GMT)
Kateri missed her target, but she quickly turned around and launched another attack. "Magical Fire!" She shouted, flapping her wings to create another blast of green flames at Holsmon.

The larger bird Digimon swooped and used Tempest Wing. It was a clean slice into Kateri, and the Piyomon gave a short shout of pain. Quinn, watching the battle unfold from the safety of the cube, began pacing again.

Redtide - March 26, 2011 04:59 PM (GMT)
The holsmon was not prepared for a blast of fire to its face and so, took the hit and started to spiral down towards the ground - however, it only served to amplify its Tempest Wing. Thankfully for the eagle digimon, it had sliced cleanly into the piyomon; both of them were now heading down towards the ground, and it was just a question of which bird would snap out of its post-attack daze to gain altitude before the eventual crash.

Trial - March 27, 2011 03:32 AM (GMT)
Her eyes were wide open; she could see the clouds growing in size as they came closer, the wind numbing her wound with an icy pain. She was falling and falling. Her arm-like wings were frozen; the Piyomon was in a state of shock that rendered her defenseless, and perhaps that was just as well, for out of the corner of her eyes, she saw that Holsmon was in a similiar state.

"Kateri!" Quinn called, pressing against the transparent surface as she tried to get a better view of what was going on.

Snap out of it.

Easier said than done.

The Piyomon shut her eyes tightly and pressed down hard against her wings. Slowly she regained control, her wings beating once, twice, faster and faster until they were able to support her above the air. And then she was rising again.

Redtide - March 27, 2011 03:41 AM (GMT)
Seeing Kateri started to gain altitude was enough for the holsmon to act. It spread its wings and glided down; soon it was spinning upwards violently with a Tempest Wing.

Trial - March 27, 2011 05:13 AM (GMT)
Kateri shouted in pain and winced as Holsmon rammed into her with Tempest Wing. With what little strength she had left in her, she forced herself to open her eyes and spin, cartwheeling into her opponent with Spiral Wing.

Redtide - March 27, 2011 07:23 AM (GMT)
Knocked back, but not defeated, the armor-level digimon found itself recovering from cartwheeling backwards; it chose to retaliate with Red Sun, firing laser beams from its eerily glowing eyes.

Trial - March 28, 2011 03:22 AM (GMT)
She was too worn to get out of the way. The laser beam hit its target; the Piyomon started to fall. Pieces of data trailed her path as she fell to her defeat. A white glow covered her as she grew smaller and smaller, this time not only because of distance.

The ground seemed a lot closer than it had been the last time she fell. The Pinamon landed ungracefully on the floor. Holograms flashed away into nothing; the protective cube vaporized and Quinn found herself safely on the ground again. She stared at the small orange chick before her in surprise.

"Kateri?" She called tentatively.

The battle was over. They lost.

She knelt down and picked up the Baby digimon carefully. It stirred in her arms and struggled to open its eyes. "Quinn?"

"I'm here. Are you okay?"

"Yeah. No. I mean, I'll be fine." Kateri blinked. "Let's go home."

The girl nodded and stood up, walking out of the training field while carrying her partner in her arms. The lights flickered off as she left the room.
