Kerum had left Digital City 3 days ago. He had bought some cards and met a man named Tarukae and learned just how dangerous this world was. However that did not stop him and his digimon companion Talon from heading out into the digital world again to adventure. It was most likely the most foolish thing he had ever done in his life, but Kerum needed to get stronger and the only way he knew to do that was to get out and take on the world. He had no practice with his cards but had seen Tarukae use them and that at least showed him how to use them which was the most useful information. He had gone through the cards several times and just couldn't find a whole lot of combo's with them they were all different in style.
Now the two of them were in what Talon had called the Lava Plains. It had started to get really hot quite a while back but it didn't stop Kerum. He figured the best place to train would be somewhere that was dangerous and just difficult to be in like the lava plains. Not to mention Talon wouldn't have such a hard time here since being stone the lava wouldn't really hurt him as much as if he had flesh.
Talon had healed up in the last three days, making a rather quick recovery as far as Kerum was concerned but he was rearing to go fight something and redeem himself for his last two fights. "So when are we going to get to fight something." Talon whined as he sat on top of Kerum's shoulder. The poor digimon had lost both of its last fights and it was now ready to prove to Kerum that he wasn't just some weak digimon, that he could and would be useful.
As the two came around the corner they came to a ravine that had only a narrow path to cross in order to get to the other side. "Well, looks like the only way across is to go across that small natural bridge." Kerum muttered to Talon as he started off across the bridge. Looking down he could see the bottom but it was quite a was from here probably around 7 stories. "Lets not fall down there." Talon muttered from ontop of his shoulder. Just as he said that a screech could be heard from their right side as they looked to see a moderate sized digimon flying towards them. "Thats a Monodramon." Talon whispered.
"Crack Bite" The monodramon hissed as it swooped in to bite Kerum. Not having much room Kerum tried to dodge but failed, however the bite missed only the monodramon's winged arms hit him causing both Kerum and Talon to fall off the ledge. Kerum couldn't help but scream, he was 7 stories up and falling. Talon on the other hand didn't scream instead he grabbed Kerum by the wrist and grasped at the edge of the cliff with his other hand sparks flying from the stone to stone contact. Talon's face was contorted into pain as they finnally stopped moving. They were still 3 stories off the ground but at least now they were not falling. "Thanks Talon." Kerum stated as he grabbed the ledge himself so that Talon could use both hands. "Why in the world did that thing attack us?" Kerum asked.
Talon took a deep breath before answering. "To be honest it is most likely hungry and sees us a its meal." The two of them just looked at each other for a few moments before the screech echoed down to them again. Looking up Kerum saw the monodramon turning around to come back towards them. "We have better get moving Talon." Kerum insisted as they started to climb down cliffside. It was just then that Kerum realized the rocks he was holding were warm. not hot but warm. Looking down he saw that to his left was a eerie red glow most likely from lava. "Great not only are we being hunted by a flying digimon it looks like there is lava close by." Kerum grumbled as he continued down.
The two got to the bottom before the monodramon had came back by to find them. Down on the ground the heat had increased and the stones had been almost unbearable to hold onto but Kerum had pushed past the pain and made it down. His hands were slightly blistered from the rocks but he didn't have time to worry about that. "Lets go Talon." Kerum stated but as he turned to head the other way the monodramon swooped overhead and landed in front of Kerum. "Lunch time for me." The monodramon said in a high pitched voice.
Kerum jumped backwards, "Talon!!." Talon came to his call immediatly jumping over his shoulder and landing in front of the monodramon. Bending his head, "Angry Rock." A rock launched out of his head and straight at the monodramon's chest. The creature was quick and dodged to the side not nearly as fast as Kerum though it would it seemed to be slighlty less mobile on the ground. "We have to keep it on the ground." Kerum stated as the monodramon charged at Talon. "Beat Knuckle"
Talon stood his ground and muttered one three words, "Use a card." Kerum just realized he had them again when Talon told him to use it and pulled one out really quickly, he swiped his "Elemental Enhancment" card causing all of Talon's earth element powers to deal 15 points more damage. "Hardest Punch." Talon roared as his hand started to glow and the two creatures made contact. The monodramon flew backwards hitting the ground and rolling a good few feet before standing back up and glaring.
"Alright lets finish this guy off Talon." Kerum muttered as he pulled out two cards and swiped the first one, "Blitz." Talon was able to do two moves before the monodramon could react, Talon bent his head down and shot a "Angry Rock" hitting the monodramon square in the chest before slaming his foot into the ground "Earth Shaker", causeing a earth pillar to slam him into the air.
Kerum smirked, "Its over now." As he swiped his second card, "Card Restoraction" choosing to restore the Blitz letting Talon attack two more times. Kerum didn't know that using so many cards back to back would effect Talon as it did but at that moment it didn't matter. Talon kicked the wall of the ravine "Earth Shaker" and another pillar shot out sending the monodramon hurtling back to the ground. Moving into position his hand started to glow again, "HArdest punch." THe punch made contact and sent the monodramon flying out of sight. As soon as the puch made contact however Talon fell forward completely passed out from using so many cards in such a short amount of time.
"TALON!!!" Kerum yelled as he ran forward and picked up his unconcious companion. "Talon, speak to me... I didn't know that using those cards would hurt you, please Talon wake up." Tears were streaming down Kerum's face as he shook Talon to wake up. Nothing he did however woke the digimon up. Giving up on waking him he sat him down near the edge of the cliff wall and took his jacket off laying it over his body his head still showing. All Kerum could do now was wait.
(To Be Continued...)
Kerum sat there just looking at the blank cliffside across from him, his mind was in a haze. He had possibly killed his digimon all because of his stupidity of using to many cards to quickly. Kerum didn't know that when a digimon died it turns back into data and dissapears, he had never experienced or been told about it so he was lost on that matter. His eyes were bloodshot from all the crying and stung to close them he had been sitting there for over 2 hours as motionless as he digimon.
Finally Kerum was snapped out of his haze when the same screech filled the ravine as it did before, it sounded much louder then before like it was a bigger monodramon. Looking down to where the last one had been sent flying he squinted to see if it was coming. He couldn't see it but knew that was the direction the screeching had come from. Picking up Talon he had decided to make a run for it in the other direction. Digging deep into himself he sprinted as far and as fast as he could covering a great deal of distance before finally having to stop and take a small breathing break. Kerum knew that if another digimon attacked, they would both be as good as dead.
The rest lasted only a few minutes but it was long enough for the enraged digimon to catch up. Kerum had no way of knowing this but the monodramon that he and Talon had pummeled had actually digivolved to the next level becoming a fierce Blue Coredramon. It had just rounded a bend when it spotted Kerum sitting there and let out a loud roar now instead of a screech, blue flames could be seen inside of the digimons mouth. "Time to pay little human." It roared as he started to charge.
"You have go to be kidding me." Kerum shouted as he scooped up Gotsumon and took off again. He had no hopes of winning all he knew to do was run and hope for the best. THe digimon was much larger now and Kerum thought that if he could find a small enough hole that only he and gotsumon could get through then they might survive. Scanning the walls as he went he couldn't find anything that would work for his plan. His lungs burned and his legs felt like lead but he dared not stop, the digimon was still a ways back but was gaining.
The bend curved sharply and then no more then 100 yards away the entire path ended in a huge cliff. "Really, seriously." Kerum shouted as he came to a stop panting and out of breath. He was cornered by a very large digimon, he had no idea what he was going to do in order to get out of this mess. There was nowhere to run, his digimon was unconciouss, if he had been more careful and not so reckless Gotsumon would be fine and they could use the Hope Arises card, they really needed the help.
"Now your mine." The digimon growled as he opened its mouth and blue fire erupted. Diving to the side was all Kerum could do, his coat caught fire but was quickly thrown off as it turned to ashes. Small burns where on his face and arms but he was otherwise unscathed. "Talon, I need you please." This immediate cause of danger and Kerum's words caused the unconcious Gotsumon to wake up and stand. He was barely able to stand but his eyes had a fire in them that showed he was willing to do whatever it took to win. "Use Hope Arises." Talon muttered as he stood there fighting gravity.
"No, it might kill you." Kerum roared fresh tears streaking down his face. He was not ready to lose someone who had become so important to him in the last few days. He was all Kerum had in this world and he wasn't about to let him die. "Just do it." Gotsumon stated in a firm tone, he was serious about this. Kerum gulped he knew that it was there only choice. "Arlight." His face changed from anguish to anger as he stood and turned towards the Coredramon. Grabbing the card he swiped it the digivice glowing, next to him Gotsumon glowed brightly as well. When the light died down Gotsumon was gone, instead a small thing that looked like a type of bird remained, it was uncouncious.
From high above a war cry could be heard as a red flaming digimon landed in front of Kerum and Talon. "You called." He said with a rather playful mood as he didn't even look back at the two, his eye were intend on the coremon in front of them. "Take your Puwamon and climb out of here, I will take care of this Coremon." The meramon muttered. Kerum didn't heistate to follow direction as he for the first time ever stored the small digimon into his D-ban, he needed both hands to climb.
Kerum took off up the rough and hot stones, not even caring about the pain, he needed to get out of there and he needed to get out fast. Down below he could hear the fighting going on between the two adult level digimon. The climb was rough, rocks where cutting his hands causing them to me less useful then when he started out. He however was not going to give in, Gotsumon had given everything he could to save him and he was not about to throw it away because his hands were cut and hurting.
Kerum wished he knew how the fight was going down there but from all the racket he knew it was most likely pretty fierce. He hated just leaving that flaming digimon all alone to fight but he had told him to leave and he had no complaints there, Talon was hurt real bad, he had even changed forms which Kerum didn't know what that meant but it couldn't be good. Luckily for Kerum half way up the cliff there was a little ledge, he pulled himself up, his arms sore and his hands cut open. He needed to rest and this was the best place to do that, if the fire guy lost however Kerum would be at a disadvantage here since the other digimon a coremon so the guy said could fly. Pushing a few buttons on the D-ban the small little bird digimon appeared in Kerum's arms. "I am sorry Talon." He whispered petting it gently with his less cut hand.
Having decided that after 10 minutes he should start moving again he pet the small little ball of feathers one last time before sucking it back into his watch and starting to climb the cliff side again. The rate was slow, but he was getting there slowly but surely he didn't know if he would make it. At times his mind drifted and he thought he wouldn't make it but he thought of how Gotsumon bravely sacraficed himself in order to allow Kerum to escape. That fueled him up and caused him for a few moments to climb faster ignoring everything else.
After who knows how long Kerum finally reached the top of the cliffside and fell back first on the ground staring up at the mountains ceiling. He was tired, hungry, thristy but he had nothing to drink or eat which was going to be a problem. He didn't know if he would be able to find any water in a area full of lava. Not to mention food would be scarce as well. He had come unprepared and inexperienced, which in the end might cost him his and Talon's lifes.
Sitting up Kerum looked around and found a small cave like area with a very small puddle of water created from a stalagtite. He drank about half of it before decideing to leave the rest for Talon when and if he woke up. He brought the little guy out of his D-ban and laid down next to him and fell alseep himself, exhaustion taking his body over.
(To Be Continued...)
"Kerum, Wake up, wake up." A high pitched childish voice was badgering Kerum's amazing sleep. He had been so exhausted from the day before that he was suprised anything had gotten through to him. Opening his eyes he jumped slightly as he saw the little bird digimon ball on his chest looking at him. "Hey Talon, glad to see you up and about again." Kerum muttered as he slowly sat up watching the little guy jump down to the ground and look up at him. Finally he asked the question he had wanted answered a while ago. "Why are you a tiny ball of feathers?"
Laughing at this question Talon hopped into his lap, "Almost all digimon are born in some small form like this, there are various differnt kinds and all of those different kinds can digivovle into several different child digimon, like I was when i was Gotsumon. When we are to injured or use up to much of our energy we revert back to a former form. I have this one which is a baby 1 form and another baby 2 form. The energy needed to use hope arises was to much for me whith little to no energy so it changed me all the way back to this form. If it had been more energy I may have even changed back into a digitama which is an egg. After resting and food, I should be able with the help of your digivice to evolve back into Gotsumon." Talon stated as if it was nothing more then common sense. Kerum realized again just how foreign and little he knew about this new world.
"Well I am just glad that you didn't die because of my foolishness." Kerum stated a tear escaping his eye and splashing down into his lap. The thought of losing Talon was to much for the poor digidestined to control. He would be alone again if not that happened and he wouldn't be able to life with himself if it was his fault. Talon just snuggled into his stomach, he was feeling the same way about Kerum, it was his job to protect him and he would even if it cost him his life. "Well if thats the case, we should go find you some food." Kerum muttered as he stood up moaning in pain, his entire body was sore.
The two of them headed down a stretch of the cave in the direction they had entered the cave, hopeing to find a way out and back to the road or even find a trailmon. They needed to get back to town but first they needed to find food. It had started getting cooler which to both of them must have been a good sign. It wasn't long before they found the exit to the cave and fresh air and sunlight hit them. "It feels so good to be outside again." Kerum croaked as he looked out at the barren area trees several hundred yards away from them. "we should be able to find food over there." Talon muttered indicating with his head to the trees.
The two of them set off at a brisk pace wanting to get as far from the lava plains area as they could. The barren land didn't take long to cross and soon they were in a vibrant forest that seemed to have all sorts of different types of trees. "alright lets find us some food." Kerum stated as they started to look around finding some berries here and there that Talon had stated were edible. It helped having a digimon around who could tell him those kinds of things. It wasn't long before they also ran into a small creek. The two fo them where parched and they started to drink the water as fast as they could. IT felt so good for them to taste such amazing water. Of course anything would have tasted amazing to them at that point. With a good assortment of berries the two sat down near the creek and started to eat. The meal took no more then 5 minutes but it tasted like a royal diner to the two starving creatures.
They stayed there for another half hour or so just relaxing in the sun, it was about 1 in the afternoon by the time the two decided to leave, but before they could Talon started to shimmer a little and the d-ban lit up. Using it Talon digivolved into another bird type digimon it was more formed had small little feet. "Well at least your not stuck as a little ball." Kerum joked as he picked Talon up. Setting off they made there way to what looked like train tracks. "Well here are the tracks, now i wonder where the trailmon is?" Talon stated from atop Kerum's head.
Deciding that they Trailmon wouldn't be showing up the two set off along the tracks figureing that it would eventually lead them back to town. Talon luckily had a good sense of direction so they knew which way was most likely the way to head back to digital city. It was close to nightfall when they heard what sounded like a train and started to wave there hands as it approached them. It slowed to a stop and allowed them on asking, "To digital city?" Kerum nooded yes to the giant train digimon and looked back towards where he knew the lava plains where. He was sure that he was not going to head back to that area any time soon. The two sat back and fell asleep as the train started off towards Digital City.
(THE END)
Looks good though Talon probably would have been able to take a few more cards before passing out. We'll chalk it up to him never having cards used on him before.
For this nice chunk of character development, .1 DEP
