Welcome to Desamarai
|
Moon Phase
|
Two thousand years ago, there were two gods: Rayzaek, the God of Sun and Isiliah, the Goddess of Moon.
They were, of course, merely humans, humans with strange and unprecedented powers, humans who found each other and bent the whole of Desamarai to worship them.
They were lovers, they were saviors, they were the heralds of a great change, they could not last forever.
In the face of a kingdom falling apart, their love faded and they fought. They fought and retreated to their homelands- Rayzaek to Maikor and the south, Isiliah to Deida and the north. Here they split Desamarai into two, here they forever altered the world as they knew it, here they sewed seeds of discord to grow eternally. Here they died.
Here they continue to shed blood.

5/18/09 Lyra here! We've had a recent influx of members, which is wonderful. (:
I've just added some new boards for the Isellean and Pyndian Oceans. It's time to sail the high seas, eh? Indulge yourself in underwater towns, sea serpent mating frenzies, human sacrifices and shipwrecks, etc.!
In other news, I'm hoping to start up the plot proper sometime. But I can't until we have some Desarian Royalty and some proper religious leaders. Soooo...

One of the joys of having wings was it would only take a short while to travel from one place to another. This was one of those occaisions. Having been chased out of the Echydnis area, he figured it would be a good while before he was welcome there once more. For now, the land of the moon seemed like a good place to hunt, beast or otherwise. Though the beasts were considerably smarter than the sentient beings. They could smell him comming from a mile away. The humans never knew though... never ever. The river was an optimal place to find prey. All of them needed water, and running water was never likely to be 'bad'. A few groups of humans had come by in the past day, though they were in large groups. Too large for one as little as Sakori to take on, anyway. Hunger was begining to set in the red ons mind. Soon the urge to feast would overwhelm his senses, and send him into his own miniature rampage. Crouched on a tree branch high above in the forest, Sakori waited. The urge to kill was getting too strong. The next thing to walk into the clearing, he'd kill and feast. Didn't care what it was, man, beast, woman, giant turkey. He would eat it.

Seridine left Deida only rarely. There was usually no need for this but they'd given her a few night's leave and she's decided to fly to the Hyosald. Just the edge of it- she'd heard tales of the strange things that lived in there, the strange things that killed. And as empty as she often felt, she desperately wanted to live. Isiliah wouldn't have her in her kingdom within the moon if she killed herself and so Seridine had ceased to consider it. She had maybe eight hundred years left upon this earth and she would live them out in patience, yes she would. She swooped low over the trees, her white wings stretched wide and the feathers atop her head pushed back by the wind. The moon barely there tonight, making it hard to see, but there seemed a nice place to stop below- a clearing open to the sky. Here she could lie in Isiliah's waning light. She touched down on the ground, feet touching lightly, and looked around. There didn't seem to be anybody here, at first glance anyway. Of course, she was wrong, but she couldn't know that. Quietly, she began to set about starting herself a fire wandering about neath the trees and looking for dead branches.
(Eh.)

Now. Something had entered the cleagin, and there was only one of them. That was a good enough reason as any to strike. Leaving his natural perch, Sakori unfurled his wings and built up speed as he fell. Thoughts of a tasty meal made him drool with glee. His front legs stretched forward with his claws ready to make the first strike. But wait, where was she going? Now there was nothing soft and fleshy to land on! Forced to shift position, a lot of stress was suddenly put on his wings in attempt to stop. Of course, not all of the momentum could be stopped. The dragon landed on the floor with a hefty thud. It wasn't long until he had found his target again though, and dashed in the white ones general direction. Sakori was hungry and simply moving out of the way would not stop him from getting his meal! While charging, he let out a small hiss. The few seconds between them gave him time to observe. It was odd to see a human with wings, that was for sure. (fersure maybe fer sure not... Gah so fail lol, i had to add /loads/ because i couldn't just have him falling )

There were wingbeats and a thud. Seridine whirled around in a swift movement, her scimitar suddenly out and her sticks abandoned on the ground. The blade shone a little in the darkness, the runes inscribed upon it present as intricate shadows. She advanced through the trees and looked back into the clearing, where a red shape stood, facing her. It was a bit hard to make out but...a dragon? She'd only ever seen one or two- walking calmly through the streets of Deida, much civilized. But out in the wild? Those gold-spiked eyes hardened and narrowed, her white brow furrowed. If it dared to attack her, she'd have it in pieces. She'd almost forgotten how much she had enjoyed fighting- it had always been something she practiced with Esis at first. And then it was reserved for highwaymen and the like. But it had always given the careful, circumspect Seridine a morbid thrill. She smiled.

Swiftly she ducked to the side, slashing her sword at Sakori. Her eyes were narrowed, her head turning slowly from side to side as she backed away and judged him. A silent elation filled her body, she was very steady, her movements were calculated and she was ready. Some words drifted out of her white-painted lips, unintentionally in tune with the sound of her song, the soaring chorus of voices rising in her body. "Come on." Her sword was ready, crossed across her body, the very edge of it shining a little and then fading out by the hilt. Her face peered over it, her head still moving, the strangest smile on her lips.

(By the power of super writers block xD)
Sakori scrambled to the side as the blade came by. Thankfully, he managed to move far enough so that it glanced off of his side scales, bruising them almost instantly. Thankfully, the strange beng stopped and gave him the time to rethink his position. She was far too fast, far beyond what he was used to. It was time to see just how fast she was though. With a quick dash, he covered the majortiy of the distance between them. The red one let out a spray of fire, trailing it to the right after the initial flame. This left only one feasable direction she could go, left (though her right, duh). Sakori already had it planned out though, diving to his left with claws outstretched. He was aiming for more of a tackle than a cut, if he could get her to keep still then he could do all the damage he wanted. Now just to hope she wasn't TOO fast. Sakori's stomach grumbled loudly. So...Hungry...

Seridine leapt over to the side to avoid them flames, her wings flaring out a moment and tangling with the undergrowth. She cursed, feeling the blast of flame lick the tip of one spread wing, singeing her white feathers. And then the dragon was leaping at her. She ducked as fast as she could, feeling her wing wrenched about, and raised to tip of her scimitar in an attempt to scrape his belly. By the time he had landed, she had managed to pull her wing free and now closed it to her back, turning about to face the red one, the curved edge of her blade glinting.

Darn, the attempt failed to cause much damage. Even worse, she even managed to turn it into a counter-attack of sorts. The blade was far more effective on his softer underside, cutting in enough to cause him to growl with pain. By the time Sakori had landed, blood was dripping from the wound.
It suddenly became aparent that this really wasn't a fight Sakori was going to win. The shock of the pain from the wound was enough to knock him to his senses, the rage subsided somewhat. Sakori backed away slightly, looking for an escape route. The undergrowth was quite heavy, he wouldn't be able to run through it with any speed. Having singed the womans wing slightly, and that being combined with him being a mighty dragon, Sakori figured it would be easy enough to fly away.
Ready with his new plan formed, the red one lunged forward, as if to try and tackle the woman again. Before he entered the reach of the blade, he unfurled his wings and Ascended rapidly. The wound and blood loss made him light headed in the process, and happily knowing he was out of the way (being it for the time being) he sat in one of the many trees for a rest, watching the woman carefully.

In the next second he was gone. She looked up, down, around. His blood had splattered the ground and there it was, a sparse trail between the trees. Her veins pulsed with the hunt, the thrill, and now she couldn't give up. She followed it, running, staring wildly up at the trees and then back at the trail. Yes, there he was, crouched on the branches. She stared up at him, sword drawn, and realized there was no way to reach him. The trees here were too dense for her wide wings. The blood in her ears fell away and again she was calm. "Who are you?" she called up, her sword still out. A drop of red fell from its tip and splashed onto the earth. The crimson outlined the words carved into the curved blade, those curly runes that spoke poetry. "For we have seen the skies..."

Sakori's first reply was to hiss at the woman. He didn't feel particularly social after both sides had attempted to dismember the other. Blood continued to drip from his wound, sapping his strength with each passing moment. He had messed up. If the red one hadn't waited so long to eat, he may have the strength to hunt the next day and recover from his wounds.
Maybe...Maybe if I try to befriend it... he thought, still watching down below. "Sakori" he voiced downwards. "I was hasty in my attack, forced by my hunger to do as I did. " He examined his wound briefly. "I cannot stay up here the entire night, I would surely pass out from this wound and fall. I would come down but then I would surely fall prey to your blade."
His voice was surprisingly calm, despite his predicament. Sakori shifted uncomfortably, trying to find a way to sit so he would stop bleeding all over the place. The red one simply hoped the woman would have the heart to allow him to land safely. It was indeed possible he would survive the night, but to make it out of the forest? His song contrasted his voice, playing rapidly out of tune in a wild panic.
((Heheh, hopefully she is feeling nice. Sorry about slow reply, my laptop is DEAD....entirely.))
