A test of distance, does it make hearts grow fonder?

She climbed into his lap and nudged her head under his chin playfully.

"Why didn't you come to bed?" she asked quietly, "What's on your mind, baby?" Pher could see that he was concerned or distracted by something. He would usually avoid going to bed with her if he had something he didn't want to tell her.

And she feared the worst.

"Ah, nothin' love. I'll be to bed with ye in a bit."

He stroked her hair as she nuzzled him but otherwise remained still. Gavin had half a mind to send her to bed and then take off for a few hours, but he knew that would only worry her more.

"I jus' need to wind down a bit, 's all. From work ya know?"

She lifted an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest as a smirk danced on her lips. "I guess I could let you wind down a little..." she said, her fingertips walking down his chest, "Or I could always tease the hell out of you." She stopped short of his groin and kissed him playfully.

"But! You must be tired, so I'll leave ya be." Her hand quickly stroked the head of his shaft before she jumped off his lap and twirled. Pher had the uncanny ability to find that spot on him, even when he wasn't even thinking about sexual or intimate things. "See ya in bed, honey. Don't be up too late, a'ight?" she said softly before disappearing up the stairs.

Shaking his head at his wife's antics, Gavin replied "Aye love. I won't."

He picked up the remote and began flipping through channels on the television. In the morning, he decided, he would call Acheron and see what could be done about his Squire status.

If he couldn't, at the very least, be relieved of his Blood Rite duties, he'd request to be transferred to a new location.

Without his family.

Trace had woken up after Pher had left the room. When she came back, he looked up at her. "Mommy, where did you go?"

She looked down at him and smiled. "I went to check on Daddy," she said softly, crawling back into bed, "That's all. Now go back to sleep." She closed her eyes and began to doze off.

He nodded and snuggled up against his mother and fell back to sleep.

OoC: Me thinks this is drawing to an end...

BiC:

After nearly thirty minutes of flipping back and forth between channels, Gavin reluctantly made his way to bed. He stopped by the chest of drawers in the bedroom to pull on a pair of his boxer-briefs and some flannel pajama pants.

Sliding under the covers next to Pher he moved his hand to touch her cheek. Less than an inch from her skin though, he pulled back. Hardly even a whisper, he told her, "You'll thank me someday."

Putting his back to her, he cleared his thoughts and went to sleep.
