"Come break me down...
Bury me, bury me,
I am finished with you...
Look in my eyes,
You're killing me, killing me.
All I wanted was you..."

Lucifer's cover of "The Kill" was playing as Gabriel drove into the parking lot of his favorite drink place, Orange Julius. His popularity was through the roof now; he had obtained superstar status within a few months of auditioning for one of the big corporations. A poster of him and his famous eyes seemed to follow him ominously; it warned him that he had another concert coming up that he needed to practice for. Unlike most singers, he actually sang live. No lip-synching for this Daimon.

As he set foot on the curb, memories flooded through his mind and he had to stop and take off his sunglasses to clear his head. Where was Lyta these days? Was she okay? Was she gone forever? He sighed and placed his glasses back on the bridge of his nose, then he walked inside.

The same preppy blonde cashier was still there after those two long years... He had come to know her name to be Amy, and he was almost tired of her constant flirting. Gabriel had grown accustomed to his insane fans, trying to get autographs and pictures with every corner he turned. Even though he was surround by people who loved him, he always felt a pang of loneliness in his heart. This made him dark and more mysterious, which made the fans go even crazier.

"Hey, Lucifer!" Amy's soprano voice cut through his thoughts and he sighed, growling softly.

"Hey, Amy," he said softly, his fangs glinting in the florescent lights. "You know my usual."

She called out the order, and then she began to pester him. Like normal. "So, Luci..." she purred, "Why do you never take those fangs out? Aren't they only for show? Don't they hurt after a while?"

He sighed and shook his head. "No, Amy," he said tiredly, "They're permanent. They do not come out of my mouth."

She cooed and stared at him hungrily. "Why is it that you're so popular and yet you don't have any bodyguards around you? Isn't it dangerous to be alone?"

The word 'alone' hit him and he looked up at her. Taking a step forward, Gabriel touched her cheek and he took off his sunglasses. "I like being alone," he lied, "And I love having my life the way it is. Danger is fun, yes?" He grabbed his drink and kissed her on the forehead. "Now, get back to work. I don't want you getting in trouble."

With a wink, he turned and walked out, leaving Amy to melt all over the counter. As soon as he got in his car, he climbed into the back and curled up, sipping his drink quietly. "Oh, my dearest Lyta... I miss you so much..." he said softly, sweeping the crimson red hair out of his face, exposing his other, equally brilliant, rainbow eye.

Truth was, Lyta had been scared. Scared for herself, although no more than usual; but most of all, scared for Gabriel. Daimons were hated by just about every being who knew what they were, and it wouldn't be hard for the Council to send a Dark-Hunter to take care of him. She couldn't bear the thought of seeing him hurt. And so, she had chosen to simply disappear from his life.

At that moment, she was sitting on the roof of a nearby building, far up enough to not be noticed by people unless they were to look, but close enough to watch him (not that she could see him, but she could sense him tantalisingly close). Idly, she kicked her bare feet in the cool night air, finding the sensation of the wind between her toes and on her soles refreshing.

She loved watching him, but it was at the same time a curious form of torture. When he and that damned human woman could be so close, why did she have to satisfy herself with just looking from afar? It wasn't fair, it wasn't right, it wasn't... She hated it, not being able to hold him tight, look into his eyes, feel his touch on her cool skin; but, no, this was enough. It had to be.

Gabriel finished his drink and tossed it into the trash can beside his car and he climbed into his front seat. He turned the key in the ignition and the radio started blaring some random Blue October song. He frowned and turned off the radio, and then he drove out of the parking lot.

Shaking his head, Gabriel sighed. He thought he sensed a Dream-Hunter, but he quickly killed the thought and continued on.

She bit her lip as the car drove off. That was the signal that her routine spying was over, at least until the next time. Standing up, she could just see the car, but then it was out of sight. She crossed her arms in an attempt to warm the sudden chill that attacked her. Why had she worn such a idiotic strappy dress? It was so unlike her, so many of her scars were exposed for the world to see. Should have just stuck with something warm, or something that covered everything: a sack, maybe.

She couldn't go to him, couldn't possibly risk it. Without realising it, her nails had been digging into her arm, and she tried to relax, let go, calm down. Wasn't working too well.

It should have been easy to disappear again. She had done it before enough, though it had taken every ounce of willpower to do so (plus some).

The chair was a sudden comfort, compared to the cold concrete of before. He was so close, she could have just reached her hand out to touch him. But he probably hated her, for vanishing without a word.

"Please... don't stop driving." As she spoke, she couldn't look at him. Instead, she looked down at the car floor.

Suddenly, Gabriel hit the breaks and stopped. Was that just a figment of my imagination? He turned around and looked in the back seat, and to his suppressed delight, Lyta was there. A sad smile filled his features and he spoke softly.

"Well, hello, love. Long time, no see."

There was a sharp intake of breath as he hit the breaks, and she collided with the seat in front of her. Peeling herself away, she leaned as far back into the backseat as she could, and snapped the seatbelt shut over herself.

Slowly, she looked up into his eyes, and in her gaze there was something desperate. "Can you keep driving? Please?"

He frowned and sighed. "Sure, whatever you wish."

He didn't bother with his seatbelt and he sped off towards his home, where he was sure that Myriad was waiting for him.

Wait, Myriad got married. I forgot.

As he pulled into the secluded driveway and drove slowly to the entrance gate, he rolled down the window and entered a number into the keypad. The heavy gate opened and he drove through, then he stopped the car outside the house.

Before Lyta could get out or say anything more, he got into the backseat, unbuckled her and pulled her into his arms.

"Where have you been?" his broken sad voice chimed, "Do you know how much I've missed you...?"

Wait, he didn't hate her? She couldn't believe it, it was too good to be true. She could feel her resolve breaking as he held her, and it felt almost like she was going to cry; which, for a Dream-Hunter, was something out of the ordinary. But the questions, despite their apparently simple answers, were too difficult for her to respond to. Instead, she leaned up a little, and kissed him, wrapping her arms around him as much as she could. She didn't ever want to let go.

One of his hands tangled in her hair and he kissed her back, deepening the motion and pulling her as close to him as possible. He could never hate her; he loved her so much... It was so good to see her again.

He finally broke away when a butler tapped on his tinted window. Gabriel rolled the window down and the butler smiled. "Sir," he said softly, "Your bath has been drawn and your dinner is cooking. Shall I get the lady something as well?" Gabriel nodded and he sent the butler on his way.

"Lyta, baby," he said burying his face in her shoulder, "I can't express how much I've missed you. There's so much I have to tell you. So much has happened in my career..." His body began to shake and he started to sob. "Why did you leave me...? I've been so lost without you..."

As the butler interrupted, Lyta looked down, embarrassed. She had almost managed to forget where they were, and the sudden intrusion brought her back down to Earth. She was about to say that he shouldn't bother getting her anything to eat. She didn't need to eat mortal food, so it seemed rather wasteful; and she had no intention of staying.

She wanted to hold him, comfort him somehow, but it was all her fault. Really, she was the one who wanted to cry, wanted that release so badly. But she couldn't. No matter how hard she tried, and all the guilt that was threatening to explode from inside of her, she still couldn't cry.

"I did it to protect you," she muttered, barely audible. In front of him, the excuse seemed almost pathetic, and false. Maybe it hadn't been for him at all. Maybe she had just been scared of the relationship, thrown out any old excuse to make herself feel better about it.

"Tell me about your career," she said more loudly. "I want to hear everything that's happened. Don't even think about missing anything out."

He looked up at her and he frowned. "Protect me? I can protect myself," he said angrily, "You didn't have to leave, sweetheart."

When she asked about his career, his features softened. "I'm a big hit with everybody," he said softly, "You can't go anywhere without hearing one of my songs. Posters are everywhere... Lyta, I've finally reached my goal." He smiled. "I can finally support myself, I have more than enough... Lyta, please... Don't leave me... Not again, I don't think I can handle it..."

"Gabriel, you don't understand. If the Dream-Hunter council find out about us, they'll kill you. They'll use their connections to Acheron's Hunters and track you down and kill you without even raising a finger. I don't want to see you die." Throughout her little speech, Lyta had tried to hold in her emotions, keep to the usual Dream-Hunter calm; but as she continued to talk, her voice got louder and faster until, by the end, she was practically shouting at him. As she realised this, she was silent. This hadn't been what she wanted at all. She didn't want to shout at him, not even mentioning her own petty fears. It had been a mistake to get closer to him, a big mistake she shouldn't have made.

"I'm so sorry," she whispered. "I'm so, so sorry. I can't... I just can't..." She struggled away from him, and left the car for the night air and the gravel between her toes. She stood there shivering slightly, turned away from him. The damned dress fluttered in the breeze.

He got out and rose to his full height; he was almost a head taller than her. He leaned against his car, his relaxed dark wash jeans clinging slightly to his thighs and his black wifebeater clung to his abs. Gabriel really did look like a rockstar and his hair returned to it's natural state, cover ing his eye.

"Lyta..." he said softly and sadly, "If you can't stay, then would you at least visit? I've been going crazy ever since you left, and it's hard for me to focus on my music..." He gave her a onceover and he grinned. "Not to mention, you look absolutely stunning in that dress."

A faint blush tinged her cheeks as she turned back to face him, just in time to hear his second statement along with the look. "Oh, well, you don't look so bad yourself." That didn't really cover what she felt when seeing him. She had spent most of her life among gods, and he could have belonged amongst them. Stepping closer, she gave him a kiss on the cheek. "I'll visit as much as I can. I can't stay away from you anymore, Gabriel. It hurts too much."

A smile graced his features and he kissed her forehead. "Thank you, love..." Gabriel said softly, "I want to see you more than ever these days... Believe it or not, you've been my inspiration for my music..." His cheeks reddened a little after admit that.
