Name: Vain Aldhelm Gareth Dautry

Age: unknown, looks 24 or so

Gender: Male

Birthday: (it's been too long, he can't remember)

Appearance/Clothing:

Long, flowing, blood red hair leads down the back of Vain’s slender body. When let down, his hair reaches all the way to his butt. Though, it’s usually tied with a belled string, into a high ponytail to keep out of the way of his work. Bangs hang sparsely in his face, giving him the look of a shy but mysteriously attractive man. His pale skin, even though it leads to suspicion about his background, makes his emerald green even more beautiful. He’s tall and has long legs, which are good for walking, running, and jumping, and long arms and fingers make him look deceivingly fragile. Other than two marks in the side of his neck, his body is totally free of scars.

For work at Café Del Soliel, Vain wears black pants, black shoes, and a nice white blouse with cuffs that is just fitting enough that it shows his well tones chest. Tied to his middle is a half-apron that covers his front from his waist to mid thigh. This is used for carrying pens and pencils along with a notebook for orders.

At Café Del Lune, he wears the same black pants, shoes, and blouse. Though, over the blouse is a black vest and around his neck is a leather choker with a penny-sized skull hanging from it. The choker is required for all employees.

When he’s not working, Vain usually wears any type of shirt that is the same color of his hair and blue jeans. Over that he wears a brown coat that stops just above his butt with two pockets in front and two pockets on each side on the inside. He also has his own choker, but instead of a skull, it has a fairly large tooth, about the size of a vampire’s fang, hanging from it by a silver loop. That and the bell in his hair are his two most important possessions.

Personality:

Despite how he may act, Vain is quite the shy person. He flirts and gracefully catches the attention of any girl in sight, but really, he’s a nervous wreck. Thanks to his power to make himself look human, he’s able to keep his vampire secret safe, but he’s always afraid that someone will catch him in his full vampire form. He feels safest around other men, falsely believing that they may take his secret better than women.

As stated before, he believes that power is a corruption worse than vampirism. In his long life, he has seen humans kill other humans just for money, and he found that to be unacceptable. Now, soldiers and mercenaries were different because they were usually killing because they were ordered to or something. He hates robbers, and big company CEOs who kill people as blackmail or to keep them quiet if something bad happened in the company.

Unfortunately, he also hates vampires because they need blood, and to get blood, they had to kill humans a lot. Because of this, Vain has gone without blood for a very long time, making him sometimes weak. He sees this as a good thing though. Because of his refusal to drink blood, he’s very disciplined, and able to easily say no to things others would have a hard time saying no to.

Occupation: (These jobs are every other day to each other, like, if one was on Monday, the other would be on Tuesday)

First job- Usually in the mornings and into the afternoons, Vain works at Cafe Del Soliel as a waiter or cook. He’s the favorite of the girls.

Next job- Vain works at Cafe Del Lune at night on the days that he’s not working at Café Del Soliel as a waiter or cook. Girls love him just as much here.

Side:

His own side. Because of his personality, he sees fighting as just another way to try and feel powerful. He sees power as a corrupting thing and that it’s even worse than being a vampire.

Weakness:

Even though Vain needs blood, he hasn’t had any human blood for many years (almost 100 or so). Also, being a vampire, he doesn’t like being out in the light and when he is, his skin burns and he becomes even weaker. This also means that he has to refuse daytime dates with some of the girls. Whenever Vain sees fresh blood, he gets a headache. People who don’t know him just think that his stomach isn’t very strong.

Special Powers:

Major:

Darkness portal: This power looks like a black disc in the air, about the size of his body. It appears, usually behind Vain, and is able to teleport him up to 20 feet away. Unfortunately, this power is very draining for Vain, especially when he goes the full 20 feet. He becomes out of breath quickly and temporarily blind because his eyes quickly get used to the darkness inside the portal, so when he comes back into the real world, even night is brighter than the inside of the portal, so he has to get used to the brightness of the outside world again. In the daytime, it takes longer for him to recover.

Flight: Usually not needing wings, Vain is able to fly very high, very fast, but not for a long time. It’s kind of like running for someone who’s best mile is 6 minutes, they can’t run for a very long time, usually. Though, because of his insecurity in the air, he usually likes having wings. His wings are obviously bats wings, a darker shade of red than his hair with a span of 28 feet.

Dark Arrow: By taking a strand of his beautiful hair, Vain can concentrate dark energy into the strand and fire it with accuracy and precision. The arrow is like a needle, able to at least pierce almost anything, if not go right through it. Unfortunately, Vain can only do this maybe 5 times a day. Any more than that and he’ll get a headache bad enough to make it so he can barely walk, much less keep fighting.

Minor:

Bat shield: With his left hand, Vain creates a smaller ‘darkness portal’ by starting above his head and swinging his hand down and around, back up to above his head, his palm facing in front of him the whole time. Little bats fly from the portal to block smaller attacks, but when a large attack is coming, the bats get as close together as possible to block as much of the attack as possible. Usually, they are able to block at least 40 percent of the attack, but it really depends on how strong the attack is. This doesn’t do much to Vain, except he does become weaker by a bit and usually needs sleep soon after using it.

Physical Change: Because of Vain’s hate for vampires, he doesn’t like looking like one, so to fit in with the humans he works with, he makes his fangs disappear and his pale skin becomes slightly more alive. The only thing he can’t get rid of is the fact that when he cries (if he ever does), he still cries blood.

Weapons:

Items:

Vain’s two most precious possessions are his choker (see appearance, last paragraph), and the silver bell on a string that he ties his hair up with.

Vehicles: None.

History Up Until Now:

Vain's name wasn't always Vain Aldhelm Gareth Dautry. That name was taken up when he became a vampire. His name used to be Andrew, but his last name was forgotten even before he died. He only lived to be about 23 or 24, before he met up with his father again... at least, what used to be his father.

He had grown up in England, working as a carpenter, making tables, chairs, bed frames, and such. He learned from his father ever since he was 6 years old, but when he was 13, his father was drafted to help fight the war against the outcasts. Apparently, his father was killed and his corpse taken away. Vain and his sickly mother couldn't work enough to get enough money to support themselves with his father gone, so times got even tougher for them. Vain still tried to work as a carpenter, but it wasn't enough, and without his father's help, the quality of his work was less than acceptable.

Because of the lack of food and medicine, Vain's mother died shortly afterwards, and because of the lack of money, he could not afford a funeral, so he had to bury her himself. With nothing but the clothes on his back, Vain set out on a journey that his mother always told him that he'd have to take. Unfortunately, life became so hard; the only thing he could do was pickpocket to survive, because no one would take his help.

Eight years past like a few seconds for Vain before he came across something that would change his life. A reward for a certain vampire had been offered. He couldn't believe his eyes, but the picture of the vampire was his father. The man giving out the reward didn't care who brought the vampire to justice, as long as it was done, and the money was very good. Vain thought that since he was his son, his father wouldn't hurt him, so it would be easy enough to bring him back, and he was a vampire anyway, there was nothing he could do.

It took two or three years before Vain found his father, but the greeting was different from what he had expected. His father welcomed him with open arms and a loving smile. The last thing Vain could remember before waking up in a coffin, was his fathers cold arms around him and a slightly pain in his neck. Though, he looked different from before. His blond hair was now blood red. His father explained that his blood, as he died, soaked his hair and the color seemed to stay.

Over the next few years, Vain forgot most of his human life, but he never forgot his mother. The way life was then was just part of the past and never again had any meaning to him. For many years, he was and acted like a vampire, raiding villages and new cities, killing people and sometimes animals when times got tough, and drinking their blood to survive.

It was the same for so long, so many years, so much blood from so many people on his hands, constantly drenched in the warm crimson liquid. Sometimes, it was the only reminder that he was dead. No remorse, like any other vampire, took hold of him, until one day, he saw himself as he used to be. In a young boy, caring for his sick mother, he saw how he used to be in his past life. The boy pleaded for his mother’s life, offering his in her place. Even though his heart hadn’t beat once for a long time, he felt the pull up his heartstrings. He knew that he would’ve done the same.

That day, he vowed to never drink the blood of a human again, and to atone for his sin, he would protect the humans for the rest of his days on this earth. He forsook his kind, and they forsook him. He despised what he had become; he loathed all vampires, seeing them as more corrupt than the humans. Years past, and again, he began to forget everything except his hate; he even took on a new name. It took a while, but he found a name that he liked. In his travels, he found a city, Dark Side City, and was greeted with the fangs of his kind, and the grasping claws of other demonic creatures that were attacking the humans there. He decided to stay and protect them as a forsaken guardian of the helpless.

Random Facts: Nothing much… yeah… life goes on…
