Well, we're among the first to roam here--cyber troubadours.
I was inspired by Jason to write THE JASON CASTRO EDGE during the AI days to try and explain him to a wider audience. I posted this article on quite a few boards including at Rolling Stone, imploring them to find out about Jason. I never published it on line because I had posted it on some sites in order to get publicity for Jason so it was disallowed. Does anyone here know where to send articles to get published online (because I lost the link I had from DDB)? I just sent it to Susan here so perhaps it will go on here somewhere as an archival document about that period. During the AI debacle involving Jason, I started writing limericks as a release. The collection became known as THE JASON CASTRO ON AMERICAN IDOL DAYS/ A BRIEF HISTORY IN LIMERICKS. I sent this to Susan as well so I guess it is on this site somewhere but I don't know where. COuld anyone help me navigate? I also wrote a Weird AL Jankowich type lyric based on "Steamroller Blues" by James Taylor. It's called the JASON CASTRO BLUES and was inspired by the phenomenon of Jastro Castro obsession as was being relayed by fans at DDB. Then I wrote a poem called JASON CASTRO where I try to synthesize who, in my perception as a William Blake enthusiast and person on a spiritual path, Jason personifies for me. I've written three published books: Meeting the North (out of print): poems and essays about living and working as a teacher in Canada's North with aboriginal peoples; Coastal Nova Scotia Outdoor Adventure Guide (available at Amazon.com): ecotourism guide (including natural history and outdoor activities and routes) to the coastal regions of Nova Scotia, where I was born and spent many years; and Hiking Nova Scotia (out of print). I've had poetry published in Canada and the United States in Grain, Pierian Spring, Briarpatch, Pottersfield Portfolio, Alpha, This Magazine, Potato Eyes, and other journals. Also been a columnist (Lightfare); film, music and art reviewer and reporter on newspapers; and written for arts magazines. Right now I'm working in the United Arab Emirates as an educational consultant to teachers in a primary school. Since DDB shut down, I've been somewhat disoriented as regard to the Dreadhead community online. I've been to Jason Castro Music but I can't seem to understand where most of the posting is going on (like "All about Jason" was in on DDB) although I know it is in the Cafe. I've been to The Dreadheads.com as well. I hope you enjoy the poems and essays I post here through Susan's efforts. I look forward to reading everyone else's work. I run my own manuscript and poetry reading service (Lytewerx) but I haven't been able to afford a website yet but, hopefully, that will change in the future. You can visit me on Facebook under Joanne Light. I have several albums of my artwork posted there and some writings on "notes" with more to come. Joanne |
