RP Cooking: You can say it was a big mistake that Hoi joined this contest. Hoi has no knowledge of cooking food in fine dining. However, he knows a thing or two about plain o’l simple cook food. It was a stage full of spotlights. People can be seen near the stage, awaiting the entrance of the chefs. Hoi entered with a bit of tension in his mind. He then made large steps and walked without bending his knees. Another chef was waiting for him near a table full of vegetable, meat and other cooking stuff. By the looks of it, his assistant chef was still a novice. He had a toque over his head. Unlike other great chefs, he was wearing a short one. His entrance was then introduced.

Hoi proceeded to the tables and stopped there. The category and judges were introduced. They want an appetizer. One judge caught his eye and it was the man with the blue coat. It kind of gave him the creeps. However, his assistant told him to start. There would be a time limit and if he wants to win he has to begin already. Hoi thinks what could he ever serve those judges.

Hoi had idea gushing over his head. It was one of the best dishes the he could prepare. It is the foundation of all cooked fish food. It is the greatest appetizer of them all. He tapped the shoulder of his assistant and whispered it to him.

“WHAT!!! Is that even? Suite yourself…” his assistant shouted in surprise. He fixed his red neckerchief and his white robe. “What do I do, Master?”

“I like the sound of that, man! Okay! Fix them up to nice rounded balls. Then coat them with flour mixed with eggs and something that could make it crunchy when you deep fry ‘em.” Hoi replied.

“You mean bread crumbs.”

“Yeah! I’ll work with the secret weapon! I’ll make a sauce!”

His assistant gave Hoi a saucepan. He took out some vegetables and seasoning that he could find on the counter. He remembered his favorite flavor, something that is sweet. His assistant reminded him that he should only place a few sugar over his salt. It would sound awful if it does. Hoi remember that spring onions can be a great ingredient for the sauce. He remembered that the white part is very sweet and crunchy. It could be an excellent ingredient. White onions are sweet as well. Then his assistant suggested that he should put in red bell peppers to counter the overpowering sweetness of his concoction.

His assistant started working with the fish balls and Hoi worked on the sauce. He was not that graceful in chopping. Slices of the ingredients were very much unequal. Typically Hoi to be exact! Hoi poured over water on the pan. His assistant told him to put a little amount flour over the water so it would clump up a bit and produce a sticky sweet sauce. He did what he was told. He immediately poured in the sliced and chopped vegetables and stirred it thoroughly.

“At this rate, you wouldn’t make a perfect sauce.” His assistant said as he scratched his forehead hard.

“Don’t mind me! It’s my technique!” Hoi said with full hopes and confidence.

His assistant finished the fish balls and placed five of them on a small plate. Hoi asked for small bowls for containers of the sauce that he prepared. He is now done. They made four sets of his special appetizers and called the host for evaluation.

“Uh… Why separate the sauce? You could have poured them in already?” the novice chef asked.

“Silly you! Not everyone likes sauce!” Hoi replied with a laugh.

The assistant was uncertain if it was consideration of the taster or was it because Hoi doesn’t know how to make his dish presentable if he did poured the sauce in.

Main Dish

Dish Chosen:
Obento

Main Ingredient:
Salt

Name of the dish:
Sunrise Bento

RP: The judges showed promising results. As expected, Hoi got bad grades from the man in blue. Hoi tried to think for something that would counter the taste of the sweet appetizer. Hoi remembered his breakfast. It was an Obento prepared served in Castle North Winds kitchen. Hoi could possibly make a version with his own variation. Other than that, this traditional meal had all the nutrients needed by anyone.

Hoi checked the drawers and the cabinets. There was almost every ingredient that they could ever need. Hoi took out a wok, a pan, four bento boxes and a bottle with something in it. Hoi had one problem though. What will be the different set of food to be placed on that bento?

“Hey, man! I’ve decided we make an Obento!” Hoi said as he taps the back of his partner.

“You sure are lively. What do I do?” the man in white robes asked as he was fixing his toque.

“I want you to prepare scrambled eggs. Add some salt in it to taste. Make sure it’s fluffy okay! I saw fish in the ingredient bin. Would you mind frying some for me? I want it deep-fried! That way all parts are cooked and nothing will stay raw.”

The man with the toque nodded. Hoi took a bowl of rice and placed it near the wok. He turned on fire and heated the large thing. He wiped the whole thing with oil as it was being heated. He chopped some garlic. That way, it could produce an intense taste and a very wonderful odor. Hoi’s like for eating gave him the title “Gourmand”. He can somehow know parts of ingredients the chef used on the food that he ate.

As the garlic grew brown, he placed the rice in and mixed it. He made the first ingredients turn mild brown to produce a crunchy feeling as you go chow down with the fried rice that Hoi was preparing. After a while of mixing, he broke two eggs and again mixed the rice once more. Afterwards, the egg that he broke was now cooked. Hoi added in some salt for it to have flavor that will counter the sweetness of his appetizer. Part of his main dish was salty fried rice. He then equally places them on the bento boxes.

“I’m done with the scrambled eggs and the fish you asked. What do you want me to do next?” the chef with the toque asked.

“Cut the egg into cubes. As for the fish, leave it be! Uh… How about you put lettuce in the part of the box where you will place the fish.” Hoi replied.

The man nods and continued his work. Hoi took out his final ingredient. The best of them all, he says. It was pickled cabbages. It was this sour feeling used to counter the salty taste of the fish. Hoi’s life of living alone has finally paid off! He took a spoon full of this pickled cabbages and placed it on a part of the bento box. The smallest part to be precise!

His apprentice chef did what he said. It looks simple but the combination of colors was pleasing to the eyes. The white rice, the yellow egg, the brown fish with the green lettuce beneath it to absorb the oil and the reddish cabbage was a profound mixture of colors.

“You out did yourself this time. Did you even plan this to happen? What do you call this?” his assistant asked politely.

“Well! Along my travels as a thief… I mean adventurer. I managed to steal… I mean buy different packed lunch! So far the best one I’ve tasted was chef Hai Yo’s! The name… Sunrise Bento!” Hoi replied.

“Why that?”

“Egg, fish, vegetable and friend rice! All the healthy things you need. All the things that you eat in breakfast! It gives you the energy to work all day!”

“I should’ve had that coming. Breakfast eh?”

Both of them served the bento boxes over the Judges table. They stepped back a little and wait for further results.

Lelei : Excellent performance Hoi, now you are ready to go to prepare your next dish. From today you have until Monday 26 to present your dish. Have in mind that evaluations will be super stricter. Get ready for… Dessert

BBQ Meat Bun

Sugar

Name of the dish:
Happy Chocolate Bread Bun

---------------------
RP SAMPLE: This was the last round. Hoi made good scores for the judges once again. However, it was not yet a cause for any celebration to happen. There is still one finall round left for them to finish. It was Hoi’s favorite part of the meal. This portion of any fine dining experience would not be complete if it cannot compete with the stranght of those forceful flavors that the main dish and the appetizers made. This segment of any meal is able to revitalize the metabolism of character for it is able to remove the very full feeling that anyone could have after eating. This is DESSERT.

As much as Hoi wants to make and eat dessert, he doesn’t know any. Now he is left with a puzzle on what food could be turned into a dessert. His assistant chef is getting impatient already. He was walking around and around near the counter. Indeed, they really need to prepare for this.

Then something came into Hoi. What if they make a bread and it has fillings inside? Some sweet of coarse could be placed inside the bread and be eaten as dessert. Hoi has made up his mind. This dish might be very simple to make, however, Hoi should not be underestimated. Hoi whispered the idea to his assistant. He turned pale and looked at him with eyes showing no comfort at all. Indeed, he was shocked.

“Whay that? Isn’t that too simple? I can make a large batch of those in less that an hour you know?” his assistant said while his arms were crossed.

“Yeah, I’m sure with that. Iwant you to make me that thing that you use to make a bread. Either four big one or eight small ones. I do prefer having four big ones rather than the other though.” Hoi told his assistant with a large grin over his face.

“A’right... What will you do then? Four big bread bun doughs then...”

“Stop the gloomy attitude, man! We need to be serious. Put your full effort into this. I’ll be making the filling.”

Both turned to their ow counter. Hoi had the one with the stove. His chef assistant was over the counter with the oven. Hoi prepared his ingredients. He tries to find chocolate around the cabinets. He did find one. However, this choclate seemed darker than the usual. Hoi took a smallc hunk and tasted it. His face turned plae and he tried spitting out the chocolate off of his mouth. The chef assistant laughed and explained that what he ate is a dark chocolate. A bitter chocolate and not intended to be sweet.

There was no other chocolate left. He just proceeded with the dark chocolate. He was thinking how would he put the chocolate inside the bread. Could he make it chunky by putting it by blocks and piece? Or could he make it smooth by melting it? He came up to a decision to make it smooth. He figures that it’s better to eat a soft bread dessert rather than a dessert hard as a rock.

Hoi took out a large pot. It was perfect to melt down a large chunk of dark chocolate. Hoi dropped the chocolatre in the put and wates for it to melt. He remered something similar that happened to something that he saw before. Insitead of melting the food it got burn. Hoi tried to think how could that be stopped? His assistant patted him on the back and gave him a glass of water.

“You want me to put water over?” Hoi asked with a big curious thought running around his mind.

“No, I was saying have a drink to lessen your tension but that could work too. Put some sugar in the mixture too.” The other man chuckled as he was aligning his toque.

As said, Hoi did dump water in. His assistant guided him on how much water would he pour. After sometime. They succesfully poured at least for glasses of water. The chocolate seemed to be melting properly. It was now getting smoother and smoother as time goes. The assistant tapped Hoi’s back and said that he is done with the dough.

Hoi smiled. He was about to finish this. He looked at the chocolate that was now boiling. He turned of the fire and the gas. He asked his assistant he could put the chocloate in the bun. His assistant told him that they should wait to cool it down first to make it a little fugier.

After a while, the chocolate was smi-solid. They took the pot and grabbed a spoon. They poured it in the four big buns and after that they sealed it in. The assistant took a mitten and placed it in the oven. Hoi sets the timer for about 30 minutes.

Waitng was now over. Hoi took the buns and made slight variations to it. He made doodles over the smooth surface of the bread. By the looks of it, it was a smiley face. Hoi told his co-cook that this dessert would be called as Happy Chocolate Bun. The assistant didn’t pretty much cared. He said that he added in some sugar on the bread so the black chocolate would be too bitter.

Hoi thanked his assistant for b aing a great help throught out the contest. His assistant was also greatful for letting him take part on his first cook-off. Both seemed please. They placed the buns over large plates and served it to the judges. The doodles on the bread may not seem very attractive, however, Hoi thinks that it is fun to see that your food smiles on you before you eat in some cases.
