Character Description:
A shy looking young woman with long black hair, a fringe covers one of her eyes with the hair covering her ears braided down to the lower part of her chest. Her slender frame makes her a very agile sword fighter with her armor of choice being light in nature. Her katana she wears round her waist was gifted to her by her deceased master, the blade of steel, decorated with engravings and the scabbard bearing the seal of her master’s family. Her armor resembles that of a katanan swordswoman but with her own customizations such as her secondary weapon (a wrist blade, made for close melee combat). Her petit stature often leads her opponents not recognize her skill but her speed more often than not proves them wrong.
Biography:
Jelena’s family were originally residents of the North, most of her life was spent in the Nameless Lands as her family decided to leave their place of birth due to tribal disputes. Her family became ill when she was 10 years of age with her father passing away not long after; his death was mysterious but appeared to be some sort of disease.
Her family moved further south where they settled in Zexen, however the fate that killed her father soon saw her mother face an early grave. At the age of 14 she was adopted by a man who lived by the sword, he brought her up in his way of living and taught her his lands native sword style. He moved on from Zexen and retired his sword in the City State, his reason for retiring was a medical condition and he took up residence in Ryube along with Jelena.

He became bed ridden by the time she was 19 though he still tutored her in sword theory from his bed, she listened intently and trained harder to be certain she learn the lessons her master described to her.

Her master was killed during the attack on Ryube by Luca Blight and General Kiba; he was burnt alive in his house after demanding his apprentice flee from the conflict. She did so retreating to the woods; she lay in wait for the Highland army to leave before returning to her home of some 5 years. She wept at the site of her masters remains before drawing her sword. She attempted ritual suicide but seeing her master’s body made her burn with fury, she intended on living by his lessons and proves her worth in his memory.



Personality:
Despite her upbringing by her adoptive father, she still has a kind and fun loving personality. Her personality warms to Grady as she feels his sadness and just wants him to be happy, she finds this difficult and so tries to be as happy as she can be for the both of them.
She does not take kindly to being mocked for being a woman, she being a strong willed woman is always quick to dismiss such claims. She houses a hidden hatred for Highland especially Luca Blight and Kiba Windamere who she saw in Ryube during the massacre.
She treats her training seriously but likes to think she is more friendly and approachable than her master who was not the kind who enjoyed the company of others unless they were promising students.
Despite her time away from home, she still has a strong Northern accent that often leads to questions why she is in the City State, even though she says she has lived there for many years.

“Master…something is wrong”
Jelena rushed into the house, she grabbed at her sword as she walked into her master’s room, and it appeared the Highlanders were drawing closer to the village. There were rumors of Toto being burnt but they did not expect them to be true.

“We need to get out of town” It dawned on her that her master was in no condition to hold a sword let alone fight. It had been a year since his illness crippled him to a bed, that day she had dedicated her life to looking after him even though he insisted she leave. She refused, happily learning from him then practicing the lessons she had learnt.

“Jelena…It is too late for me, I cannot leave here” he said weakly,

“Then I shall stay and protect you…” Jelena said clutching her master’s hand.

He closed his eyes with a smile; he followed by shaking his head before pulling her closer to whisper in her ear. “You must leave, I am not sure how long I can hold onto life…you are young and a good student…a good daughter” he said with a cough.

“Master…father…please…” she said with tears streaming down her face, her master opened his eyes to see her tears. He slowly lifted his hand, wiping away her tears at which point Jelena kissed the back of his hand. She felt bad leaving him but she knew that time was running out, she had always known her master was cursing the fact he would not die in war and as a feeble old man. This was the end he had hoped for, she understood but still refused to allow her only family to be killed.

“Please Jelena…go…hide in the forest, you must get out before it’s too late” he said pushing her hand away. She got to her feet, nodding as she gripped her blade. He nodded with a smile as if she was doing the right thing; she sniffed as he wiped away the tears from her cheeks.

There was a scream from outside as a chaotic choir of roars came from the entrance of the village; people were running by her masters windows as the cries seemed to move closer. She looked back at her master as she was heading out the door; “Go!” he yelled with all his strength.

She nodded as she headed out of the house, she ran round the corner to see two highland soldiers bearing down on her. “Hey get that girl!” one yelled as she spun round drawing her sword, with a dodge she evade the blade flying towards her cutting the soldier across the back of the leg. He fell to the ground clutching his wound as she resumed her retreat, she managed to dash into the forest, and looking back she saw nobody in pursuit but ran harder as she disappeared into the trees.
