Title: Grandia

Flik - May 7, 2005 02:38 AM (GMT)
A lot of people really overlook this game which is quite sad. I really enjoyed it when I played it, although I confess I have not yet beaten it.

Rapp was one of my favourite characters. He was just so awesome, as was Feena. I want to play it again, so badly, and I had the fortune of having Shu offer to loan me his copy. I so can't wait to start playing it again. It was such a great game. The cinematics, characters, music, storyline. Everything made the game great, to me.

Oh the memories...

What do you all think of it?

Nash - May 7, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
Well I didn't like playing its seqel, Gradia 2, but I did however like playing part one as well. Its one of those old school rpg that sticks to the classical rpg styles. I liked paying it and enjoyed every moment of it. I remember playing it on an emulator which kinda sucked since the movie parts of the game skipped and lagged often. I rather wished to have played it on a real copy on my playstation.

Clive - May 7, 2005 03:21 AM (GMT)
Yeah I own it, it's sweet. I especially liked Gadwin. Too cool, to bad he was only in your party for a limited time. I got to the end of 2 but still haven't finished it years later. I still need to play extreme though.

Klaus - May 7, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah this is classic stuff. Its weird, in Japan this game versed FF7 and survived, yet it was years till we got it and even then it was to little fanfare. weird.

I don't get why people dislike part 2 so much, Ryudo was way cooler then Justin, and he didn't look like a girl either. And he had a bird. Birds are cool.

Flik - May 7, 2005 11:34 AM (GMT)
Nope. I liked Justin a lot better, sheerly because he had his character flaws and imperfections which were natural of a young boy going out on his first adventure.

And Mullen kicks ass. He is one of my fav all time characters!

Klaus - May 7, 2005 11:45 AM (GMT)
Okay Mullen was cool, and he had a great theme song too. I didn't like that in the end he ended up just helping you, that seemed a little bit silly to me, should have been a one on one duel to the death or something.

Well I can't agree with Justin so I won't. lets leave it at that.

Clive - May 7, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
Justin and Feena did get really annoying... and Sue... 2 was not that bad...I just feel that it wasn't a Grandia game, it didn't have that feeling to it that 1 did, but it wasn't that bad... I just haven't rented it again yet because I know that when I do I'll bet that same day because I know that I'm at the end.

Nash - May 7, 2005 07:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah that Gradia feeling just wasn't there in part two, one of the reasons I didn't like it as much, but it still a pretty good game. Ryudo is much cooler than Justin but Justin seems more normal than Ryudo. Justin's character also gets more developed.

Clive - May 7, 2005 07:05 PM (GMT)
yeah Ryudo's charecter changes but not in the same amount that Justin's does. I can't wait for Grandia three to come out.

here is some info.

Nash - May 7, 2005 07:36 PM (GMT)
Wow, looks good. It may be a RPG game I would be looking foward to.
Lol, Emelious reminds me of Luca. Seriously, not counting the looks. The graphics look nice and rich just looking at the environment in the game. Almost Final Fantasy material.

Flik - May 7, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
OMG! Feena got annoying? Feena was awesome! I LOVED her!

And also I love the scene after the end credits roll where Justin and Feena's little kiddies get off the ship and Sue is flabbergasted.

Clive - May 7, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
I wish they would of shown Justin and Feena. Wonder if they had enough kids...

Flik - May 7, 2005 10:25 PM (GMT)
I think there was about eight of the little brats. Waaaay too many in my opinion. Didn't Justin and Feena have anything better to do, coming back from the New World?

Nash - May 8, 2005 01:50 AM (GMT)
Heh heh, I guess not. Turning Feena into a baby making machine was probably the only thing they could think of after returning.

Clive - May 8, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)
Heh, Grandia 1 1/2:The New adventure, "Parenthood"

"Feena! We have to climb the mountain trail to the next town to get more diapers for Justian the 3rd."

Nash - May 8, 2005 03:07 AM (GMT)
Heh heh lol.

Feena- " Damn, looks like we have to fight our way through these monsters!"
Justin- " Wha-what?! You can't fight in your condition! The baby might get birth defects!"

Clive - May 8, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
" We don't want it to end up like Feena the 6th"

" But Justin I can still use my whip" in an effort to attack the enemy Feena spins around and falls to the ground...belly first. "Oh darn it, I guess well have to have another."

How come none of the kids had mixed features? We didn't see a red haired girl or a green haired boy.

Nash - May 8, 2005 03:53 AM (GMT)
Well they probably rushed the ending like a few RPGs.

Clive - May 8, 2005 03:54 AM (GMT)
Sadly that's true all too often.

Viktor - May 8, 2005 03:55 AM (GMT)
these days alot of RPGs are rushed. I'm happy with FFXII because its taking ages so that means better for us. I wish they took over a yea and a half to make Suikoden V but to many fans complain.

Nash - May 8, 2005 03:58 AM (GMT)
Well I'm just hoping Suikoden V will take place right where they left off at Suikoden III, maybe a few years after it. I just hope they don't rush at it, screwing up the story and such.

Viktor - May 8, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
I'm hoping Viktor and Flik are in it. Plus Pesmerga and Nash. Can't say Clive cause he has no more purpose since Eliza is dead. But Clive was a very kool character.

Nash - May 8, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
Well since Clive is the New Guide master, he may be involved with Harmonia and its corrupted politics, possibly use him. Anyway, I'm hoping the next installment involves mainly in Harmonia. Since not much is known about it.

Clive - May 8, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
Yeah it would be great if it was in Harmonia. Maybe the characters could help Clive and Master Sauro take over the Howling Voice Guild and reform it, (hint hint to a future idea i have when the forum expandsend hint hint)

Viktor - May 8, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
it would better to have it in 2d. Like you got to the howling guild and help fix it.

Flik - May 8, 2005 09:49 AM (GMT)
Hey! If you want to discuss Suikoden V, then make a new thread. This one is for the discussion of Grandia!

Pesmerga - May 8, 2005 10:20 AM (GMT)
I never played the original Grandia although I found Grandia 2 to be quite boring. I think Grandia Xtreme improved a bit but it was still nothing special. Hopefully the 3rd will be better.

Klaus - May 8, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
Wow serious? I didn't think Extreme held a candle to many games, not least of which Gradia 2.

Who else thought the idea of leveling up magic in Grandia 1 was boring? I maxed out justin and didnt bother with the others.

Flik - May 8, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
I loved it. It made the game challenging, so you had to use the abilities that you normally would have overlooked. Like the level 1 earth ability.

And you had to get your magic and weapon up to a certain level to get their different special attacks! ^_^ I loved it.

Klaus - May 9, 2005 01:15 PM (GMT)
Oh the system itself wasn't awful, but it promoted favoritism because using one character to do all the killing trippled your growth rate, so in effect you can just concentrate on justin. (or which ever character you like)

i actually liked how you had to level up magic and weapons to learn new moves, problem is there wasnt enough move, and they tended to be pretty similar.

Flik - May 13, 2005 07:12 AM (GMT)
I actually liked a few of Sue's moves. Because they incorperated Puffy. And that thing is just so darned cute.

Klaus - May 13, 2005 11:09 AM (GMT)
... right, very nice.

Who else didn't like how the New World completely took over, meaning you couldnt go back to the old towns? It would have been cool for the game to move back and forth.

Clive - May 13, 2005 05:08 PM (GMT)
" GO PUFFY.....RAH, RAH....RAH, RAH....YEAH PUFFY!

that move just stuck out in my mind. they had some interesting moves.

Kwanda - May 15, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
For me Grandia 1 was way better then 2 I didint finish 2 it become booring and 1 was just great. Great story great characthers and all. I just dont know why but I loved that game and I think I finished it 2 times what is very strange cuz I dont play games more then once.

Clive - May 16, 2005 12:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah it was good, I'm working on my third time through.

Kyril - April 28, 2006 01:32 AM (GMT)
Grandia 1 was a great game, Justin was a good main character, but the supporting cast was the best in the series....

"Gadwin's secret move! Dragon King Slash!"

Ryudo was just so bad ass of a main character.

Luc - May 5, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
I don't think i've posted in here yet, but I might as well in response to what some people have said.

I did think Sue was a good character, not for her moves and such. But without her you wouldn't have that feeling that Justin and Sue were doing this all as a sort of... 'game'. Up until she leaves is when the game really starts to become properly serious.

One of my favourite lines in the game is...

Feena: "Ow! I hit my fanny!"

Of course, I find it funny because in Britain a fanny is a womans... *area*. That was especially funny indeed.

Of course talking about the other characters, Gadwin was just plain annoying. And Guedo got on my nerves occasionally. But everyone else was cool. Did anyone else feel that Liete sort of resembled Leknaat in her... ways of being? I noticed that on a recent playthrough.

Just typing this makes me wanna play the game again. ^_^

The magic system, and skill system was amazing. The more you use it, the better it gets... and if you get two elements to a certain level they combine to create new elements. I loved Fire/Wind = Lightning. Twas grand.

The music was pretty good as well. Especially the second discs battle theme, one of my alltime favourites was the boss theme in some places. It felt jumpy and not like you were fighting some uber scary monster, but like... "Wow! A monster! YEY!" ( As Justin would probably say... )
