The Starstones and Watch Rim
This is where the Watch Dragon and his rider are stationed, upon the fire-heights where all approaches to the weyr can be easily seen. The Starstones, which serve as a reminder when a new Pass is near, rest here as well.

The Weyr Bowl
The Bowl floor is covered in a thick layer of rich black sand, crushed black diamonds, which are common to the area, and cover the beach below the weyr in their pulverized glory. Rising above the Bowl to the northern side is a dramatic half peak; the black stone seeming like jagged fingers pointing up into the skies. Beneath the soaring peak to the north, accessed from ground level, lies the Senior Queen and Weyrleader's accomodations which is adjacent to the Hatching grounds just to the west. The junior queens' weyrs are located on the other side of the Hatching grounds, with the Weyrling and Candidate Barracks situated along the southwestern wall of the Bowl. To the Northeast is located the Kitchens and the Lower Caverns, which provide accomodations to the myriad weyrfolk required to staff Carew Weyr. Finally, across the bowl from the Weyrling Barracks lies the Infirmary. The corrals containing the beastholds fill the narrows between the bowl and the plateau just below. Some Riders' individual weyrs are accessed from within the bowl, but others are located in the outer sides of the volcanic formation, and are termed Forest weyrs. Due to the proximity of the ocean, there is no lake found in the bowl; however young dragons not able to fly can bathe in the waterfalls cascading down from the mountainous heights.

Riders Weyrs
The riders' weyrs are located both on the inside face of the Weyr itself as well as on the outer wall within the forest. There are approximately 400 weyrs though only about 150 are currently occupied. Each individual weyr consists of a broad ledge for landing, a large outer cavern for the dragon and a small room for the rider, with a private bathing room off of the inner room. There are several weyrs with ground level access within the Bowl but they are much in demand and available only to those whose function require such access. The forest weyrs usually hold the younger riders but due to the recent plague, there are plenty of open weyrs within the Bowl.

Kitchen and Dining Caverns
The Kitchen and Dining Cavern are accessed directly off of the Bowl. Upon entry, the Kitchen is to the right with the Dining area off to the left. The Kitchens boast more than half a dozen cooking hearths, which are in use during most of the day. The Night Hearth, located closest to the entrance, is kept burning even during the wee hours with klah and stew or perhaps cereal, so that there is always something warm on for those pulling the late night watch shift. There are many trestle tables set up in the Dining Area, and more are stacked against the wall for Hatching and Celebration feasts. There is an opening in the west side of the dining hall which leads to the rest of the Lower Caverns complex.

Lower Caverns
The Lower Caverns are accessible through the Dining Caverns as well as from the Bowl. They contain living space for all the Weyrfolk as well as specific craft areas, common work areas, storage areas, and several heated baths. There are many odd tunnels and passageways linking the Lower Caverns with other parts of the Weyr.

Hatching Grounds
The Hatching Grounds is the largest Cavern within the Weyr bowl, so immense that dragons can easily fly in during Hatchings without risk of collision. The sands are sufficiently large enough for up to three queens to clutch and still have room left over, though this has never yet happened. There is a double entrance, one below for foot traffic and another in the peak of the cavern to allow entrance by dragon flight. A large bank of spectator seating is to the right. The black sands for which Carew is famous cover the ground of the Caverns, providing a properly heated temperature for newly laid eggs. There is a ledge midway up the eastern wall which leads by a short passageway into the Senior Queen's weyr. The ledge is accessible from the sands by a set of steps cut directly into the rock.

Infirmary
The infirmary is directly opposite the Weyrling and Candidate Barracks, on the southeast wall of the Bowl. The cavern is large, but not large enough for dragons, except for the smallest weyrlings. The cabinets that line two walls have plenty of shelves for medical supplies and a long, broad counter serves as a workstation for the healer. There are several alcoves along the walls for convalescing patients and a line of cots in the main area for those more serious cases which require strict care, along with a couple of small dragon couches for injured weyrling dragons. Older dragons who are injured and cannot fly are cared for in several ground level weyrs for that purpose.

Candidate Barracks
The Candidate barracks are just north of the Weyrling Barracks on the southwestern side of the Bowl. The accommodations are split into a two sides; male and female, with the females on the right side and males on the left. The candidates live communally in one large room for each gender. The sparse furnishing display the lowly ranking of the occupants, with only a small cot and a single clothes chest for each candidate. There are sanitation facilities on either side with a small wash stand, but the dorm-like structure does not boast bathing pools, so candidates must make use of those in the Lower Caverns or the Weyrling Barracks. There is an office within for the Candidate Master and his assistant, as well as a classroom and a small social area.

Weyrling Barracks
The Weyrling Dorms are far down on the southwestern side of the Weyrbowl, just north of the corrals for the Weyr's beast herds. They are intentionally isolated a bit from the main area of the Weyr so that the creeling of over-fed dragonets does not keep the entire Weyr awake. The Barracks are segregated by rider gender, with the left side for male weyrlings and the right side for female. All of the weyrlings live communally, with a small stone couch for the dragon, and a cot and clothes press next to it for the rider. Only Gold and Amber hatchlings are given precedence. When one is in a recent clutch, they and their rider occupy one of four alcoves on the girl's side of the dorms. There are two communal baths, one for each gender.

Beast Corrals and Feeding Grounds
All of the Weyr's beastherds are contained within the confines of this area. There is a large pasture area where herdbeasts and runners can graze as well as several small holding pens where the creatures are kept just prior to slaughter. There are several stone beastholds along the Weyr wall to shelter the animals during threadfall and other inclement conditions. There is also a small kennel to hold the Weyr's population of working canines. Typically, feeding dragons carry their kills aloft to the nearby ledges to feed but there is plenty of space on the plateau if a dragon prefers to feed on the ground.

Outer Carew: Beaches
The sparkling black sand beach lies directly below the Weyr, only a very short dragonflight or a slightly longer but more difficult walk down the twisting, rocky path from above. Only humans, and quite agile ones at that can access the beach via the path, making it off limits to weyrlings with young dragons. Wild Firelizards can be seen darting and playing in the surf and over the sands, though they disappear if people come too close.

Outer Carew: Beast Pastures
Due to the decease and even cessation of tithes during the long interval, Carew Weyr began keeping and breeding herdbeasts and wherries to feed their population. This pasture is away from the Weyr proper by perhaps a day's travel, so that the herdbeasts and wherries will prosper and multiply but yet be near enough to drive to the Weyr when needed. There are some rather rough but sufficient accommodations in a nearby cliff for those weryfolk who tend the herds. The pasture area is isolated and off the beaten path, not normally traveled by any other than weyrfolk, though by rights the acreage belongs to Carew Hold.
