Sandy’s been in his office almost every day and never noticed how much clump of mess has piled up on tables, floor, chairs, and random spots were messes are usually never found. He decided that today was a day since it was a weekend to actually have the nerve to sort out books papers and garbage to its rightful spots. “Where is Kristen when you need her,” he said to himself as he looked at his very cluttered office.

Marissa pulled her car into a parking spot near Sandy's office, figuring that Sandy was probably the best person to talk to about some of the things going on, mainly with the things considering her mother. She had had reason to want to stay away from her when Julie had tried to forbid Marissa from seeing her on the threat of moving to LA, but especially now, Marissa just didn't even want to deal with her mom. In fact, Marissa had taken to completely ignoring her mom when she was at home.

So who better was there to go to than the closest thing Marissa had to a father figure, not to mention her future father-in-law and a lawyer?

Marissa knocked her knuckles on the door to Sandy's office and opened the door slightly to see if Sandy was still in his office. She smiled slightly when she saw him glancing around his office space. "Sandy? Do you think I could talk to you for a bit?" she asked tentatively.

Sandy was cleaning when he heard a knock at the door. At first he thought it was Kirsten and was glad that he was about to have some help clean up the office. Before he could get to open the door it opened by itself and Marissa Cooper was standing outside. Sandy didn’t expect her in the office because he usually sees her at home. “Hey, Marissa didn’t expect you to be here,” he said in shock

"Sandy? Do you think I could talk to you for a bit?" she asked tentatively.

Sandy knew what this visit was for since he heard from Ryan that morning. “Yes, come in Marissa,” he introduced her in. Sandy walked up to a chair covered with books and picked up the books and placed them on the floor. He dragged the seat over to Marissa, “Take a seat and lets talk,” he said and sat down behind his desk filled with papers.

“Yes, come in Marissa,”“Take a seat and lets talk,”

"Thanks," Marissa said as walked further into the office and sat down in the chair Sandy had pulled for her, resting her hands on her stomach. She wasn't exactly sure what she expected to come out of this discussion, so she wasn't sure where she should start. "So I guess you've heard about my mom, by now," Marissa started, assuming that if Ryan hadn't mentioned it then Sandy or Kirsten would have intervened when they saw the poolhouse. "I know that I'm moving in with you guys soon--and I can't tell you how much I apreciate it--just.... I can't help but feel like she still isn't going to let up on Ryan and me, and I don't know if there is anything that I can do about it."

Sandy watched her talk and she looked very nervous and he didn’t know why because he knew Marissa ever since she was born.

"So I guess you've heard about my mom, by now,"

Sandy didn’t say anything and just nodded but really haven’t heard about the whole story but he had an idea on exactly what happened. He continues to watch her carefully as she talked.

Sandy didn’t mind that Marissa was actually going to move in with them as long as Ryan and her share the responsibility and they both straiten out their life and he was very happy to help them out. “Marissa look I don’t mind you staying at my house. Kristen and I are actually excited about you staying with us. We actually talked about giving you your own room for privacy. And as for your problem with your mother I will try to my best to try to keep you and Ryan safe.” Sandy explained. “I have to ask you one question though how old are you?” he asked because knowing that if Marissa was already eighteen that she could legally leave her parents.

Marissa smiled a little, not having thought about the option of sleeping in a separate room. She had assumed originally that she'd sleep in the poolhouse with Ryan, thinking that things between the two of them were getting better pretty quickly... but suddenly Marissa wasn't so sure if Ryan was up to it. Could it be that this meant that Ryan had mentioned a concern or an uncertainty to Sandy or Kirsten that he hadn't mentioned to her because he was having second thoughts he wasn't telling her? Marissa made a mental note to talk to Ryan about it next time she saw him. She felt a little better at Sandy's evident protectiveness over herself and Ryan. "Thanks," she said simply with a small smile.

“I have to ask you one question though how old are you?”

"I turned 18 just a while ago," Marissa said as she readjusted herself in her chair so that she was sitting up straighter. She had turned 18 right around the time that Riley first started trying to get between herself and Ryan. Happy birthday to Marissa.

"I turned 18 just a while ago,"

Sandy smiled at Marissa and he knew that there was no way of Julie Cooper could ever interfere with her life and there was no case in it at all. “Look Marissa you have nothing to worry about your mother. Right when you step out of her household she has no right on you what’s so ever because of you are now considered as an adult and an individual at this country.” He explained.

Marissa nodded at this, but couldn't help but feel unsure about her mother. "I know that legally she can't make decisions for me, but I can't help but think that that's why she bribed someone to break up Ryan and me. I was eighteen and she still found a way to interfere despite everything." Marissa hadn't realized that as she spoke her fingers automatically started twisting at the ring that Ryan had given her--the one that had been his father's. "I was kind of thinking about a restraining order... but I know that even if I had gotten one on her earlier she still would have been able to bribe Riley."

Sandy nodded his head but he knew that a restraining order on Julie Cooper won’ really work because there is no sneakier person than that woman and plus she is Marissa’s parent. “Look Marissa I don’t think that would help. Did you even try talking to her and telling her exactly how you feel? Maybe she would understand she is your mother” Sandy suggested even though he knew that they were talking about The Julie Cooper but she is a mother and maybe that, that part of her would actually come out.

Marissa broke eye contact with Sandy and found herself looking out the window near his desk at this suggestion. As much as she didn't want to admit it, Sandy was probably right. That was not to say that she was at all fond of the idea of changing her her recent habits and actually acknowledging her mom.

"I guess I was hoping that there was a non-confrontational way to solve this," Marissa said, running her fingers through her hair as she finally looked back over to Sandy. Part ofher had known that she needed to talk to her mom... but she had wanted to think that there was another way to handle this. "I think you're right, though," she added.

Sandy nodded that Marissa got the point. He knew this would be hard for her to do but it’s really the only way to deal with Julie Cooper. The more you push that woman away is the more she strives to make life worst for you. Sandy looked at Marissa sadly at the fact that he feels bad that she has to confront her mother. “Look Marissa it’s the only way and if you want I would help you,” he said not knowing what he just got himself into. “If you want me or Kristen your pick or both of would be there when you decide to talk to your mother unless you want to talk to her alone,” he suggested.

At this point, Marissa wasn't sure how she wanted to go about talking to Julie, because part of her still just wanted to avoid her mother. "Thanks," Marissa responded sincerely, really appreciating Sandy's offer, "but right now, I really don't know."

"but right now, I really don't know."

Sandy knew that Marissa still will try to resist talking to her mother as much as she can and that she wasn’t ready for it yet and again being as permissive as he is Sandy didn’t bother to tell her that she had to do it and instead give her the choice of figuring out when it is right for her to talk to her mother before it’s to late. “Marissa I understand you are not ready for it yet but when you are just let me or my wife know ok,” he suggested.
