From the high school site
"My name is Jack MacDougall. #3, slot back for the Frank Hurt Hornets. I am 16 years old and in grade 11. This year we finished last in the AA varsity level.0-6, not one win. Only scoring 12 points in total. Every game we were predicted to loose by more than 40 points. And they were correct.Every game was a blowout. Our first game of the year was against Mount Douglas. We lost big. The following day, three of our best players quit.It was an unpleasant surprise. As our season progressed more and more players were dropping out.Players that I considered my family. It wasn't till the end of our horrific season, till I realized who my real brothers were. And as cheesy as it may sound. Every game we played...we played to have fun. And we did. We are no different then another team. Before every game get pumped. We go out there to crack some skulls. We go out there to win. My friends from school Sometimes come up to me and say "dude, aren't you embarrassed of loosing." When asked a question like that, a lot goes through your mind. But not me. My answer is no. Do you know why. It's because I'm a winner. It's because WE are winners. We play because we love the game. We play for Frank Hurt. We play for the each other. That's what it truly means to be a Hornet. Our second last game of the season was against South Delta. A game that was sure to be full of injuries. Our coaches decided to forfeit. Does it mean that we are cowards.No.Our coaches care about us, and even though few of us agreed with it. they felt that it was the right choice. Our coaches would do anything for us. And we would do anything for them. They are our family to. I wouldn't want to play for any other team. Because I know that my teammates...my brothers...will always be there for me. And there isn't one of them that i wouldn't back up. So, if you ever go up to a Hornet, and ask him if he is embarrassed of loosing. He will speak on our behalves, and say "No, I am not a loser. I am a Hornet. I am 1 team and 1 Family." I would have this kid on any team I was associated with and hats of to the Hornets that stayed with the team |

Which high school site is this from?
They should have been Tier II. But really though how do AA teams compete with AA.5 teams likes Mt Doug, South Delta? And then you have Handsworth, Rick Hansen.... Time for A, AA, AAA and Tier II? |

It didn't help when Coach Mike Biggin bolted for the Lord Tweedsmuir program + whatever happened to Coach Dave Heskin? It is very tough for outside coaches to run a successful program especially at a place like Frank Hurt which is an inner city type of school.

official site and yes I agree they should have played tier II Why not AAAA,AAA,AA,A with religation at end of season? That way programs would move up and down depending on their current situation. |

what official site? can you post the link?
OG football fan...heskin and biggins were forced out pretty much. They are great guys who did good things with that program. But they had their legs cut out from under them from others who thought they knew better. Now we can see how well that worked out.... |

Dear Frank Hurt players - keep your chin up! There are many factors behind fielding a competitive football program in BC. The one thing that you've got in spades; heart, is the most important. Keep up the good fight, get in the weight room in January, hit the track for speed and agilities, get coaches and some throwarounds to keep/build momentum. That way, wherever your team ends up; AA, Tier 2, A? - you can hold your head high! Great letter Jack!

Part of the problem for Frank Hurt is they compete with Surrey Minor football for players. Kids being kids don't want to play for a team that they feel sucks. You can be the greatest coach in high school football, but if you don't have talent, you won't win. My understanding is the reason we don't have an A division is that BC School Sports won't sanction it. If anyone knows for sure, let us know. Anyway, kudos and props to this kid from Frank Hurt who has figured out why High school football is so great. |

I don't understand why places like Langley and Frank Hurt have to compete with their community counterparts, and suffer as a result of this, but places like North Delta, Coquitlam, Victoria, and so on don't?

To Going Deep
I have to take issue with your statement. I can not say if Mike Biggin was or was not forced out of Frank Hurt. He did however leave in a way that was constructed to inflict the most possible damage to that school. With no prior notice even to the principal of the school, he cancelled the program all together. He cancelled the team schedule with the league. He in short gutted the program so that it would have no hope of playing the next year. It was only through some very determined efforts of the parents group led by Duane Linnen a former Biggins assistant who no longer had a son playing for the school but believed strongly enough in the program to make the effort to save it. Yeah I guess you could say that Biggin was forced out, if by that you mean seeing greener grass and heading for it, but taking time to conduct a scorched earth program on the way out. Biggin took over a program that had been a contender for a couple of years, and turned it into what it has become. Fortunately there are people like Duane Linnen who may some day turn this program back around. |

Most of the community ball here on the island is done during the fall season, so it doesn't exactly conflict with high school ball. As far as I know, the only other ball going on is the Spartans, but the Midget age group is 16-17-18. A lot of players actually go and play for them after high school. |

What planet are you from Luke? Community ball and high school ball run at almost the same time. The only difference is practice times and high school games are Fridays and Saturdays whereas community games are on Sundays. There is a direct competition for talent in most communities. |
