I'll sign up! I've been waiting in line for a class for a while now!

Battle Cruiser Fleet Command ASGC It has come to my attention that I should put some cleverly made picture in this space or some very enlightening and/or humorous message here instead. However, I do not particularly feel like doing either at the present moment (mainly because I do not currently have one available which has not been used on a previous occasion and I am in no mood to find and/or create more). Unfortunately, it really aggravates me when I make a post and there is a wastefully large space of nothingness in my signature area, should my post be anything less than a big ass paragraph! Therefore, I have concluded that the best course of action is to fill this space with text detailing my predicament and my exact thoughts regarding the situation. Thank you very much for your time and I apologize that you had to be bored with my little idiosycrasies...should you have actually bothered to read my "space filler." |

I'm so sorry for being late guys! I just got out of the debrief. I had an AE that needed attention (Air Emergency). A U.S. rook in an F-16 had a bird strike in the engine and I was the only one up so I had to help him get back. The bird went through the opening and almost tore apart the fan blades that could have sent him back down to Earth... the hard way. As for the lession here it is.
Today I'm going to do the basics just in case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about. First, if you push the joystick forward you will go down. If you pull it back you will go up. If you move it to the left you will go left. Same thing for the right. The one thing that you must always watch for when you're flying is your speed, altitude, and attitude. And yes I did say "attitude". Your feels are going to be your main way of flying. You need to stay at the top of your game but don't get too cocky. I've seen many Rooks and Aces get killed because of this. Basic flight manuevers: S-turns, barrel rolls, loops, tail slides, stall slides, ect. All of these will help you survive and get the kill on the enemy before he gets you. Studies have shown that if a pilot can survive his/her first 10 combat missions then he/she will most likely survive for their entire career. I fly the F-16 Falcon and it is one of the worlds best fighter aircraft. Tuesday I will begin combat manuevers and how to kill your opponent. There is homework down below. Please send it to my Email here on this site or on Scifi.com. Have a good first day of class! What I want to see know from you is a little "combat summary". Choose any aircraft in the world from any time period and tell me at least 3 facts that help it out in a combat situation. |

Aww don't worry I was just joking around! O kay I have a lot of time today so I'm going to do the lession today so listen up! Okay, todays lession is combat manuevers. I'll be going over some easy and basic ones and maybe a few difficult ones to. First off, stall slides. Stall slides are a easy but can be a very dangerous manuever, what you want to do is have the enemy behind you and have a large amount of thrust in order to do this right and not get yourself killed. Like I was saying, the enemy is behid you and what you need to do is pull a hard 90 degree turn up. Make sure that you have plenty of altitude and pull back the throttle to about 10 or 5%. Just as you're about to stall push the nose forward and head for the deck (ground) when you have just enough speed to level out do it. But before you do all that you need to have your opponent almost right on your tail. When you do this he/she should still be going up while you're going down and building your momentum back up. By about this time he/she should be in a stall or just getting out of it. This is your chance to take out the enemy very easily. S-Turns: S-turns is a fast and a very easy way to get behind the enemy and it is quite simple. All you need to do is a few high paced turns. All you do is pull up and to the left and continue doing that for about 3 seconds and then make a hard and slow right turn towards the ground. For some strange reason some fighter jocks think that the faster you go the more you will be able to turn. This is not the case. When you slow down as you're making the hard right, the enemy should come up on your right and go pass you. Which in turn makes you able to make the kill. I think everyone knows what barrel rolls and loops are so I'm not going to go in to those. Tail slides: Tail slides are basically the same as a stall slide except that when you're about to stall had left or right rudder so that you make the body of the plane slide over instead of wipping it to the front. It's easier to do this than the stall slide but just as dangerious. Anything that you saw in the movies like Top Gun or anything like that is totally false except for a few things. That thing that "Mav" pulled to make his plane pull up and over his opponent is not physically possible in the real world. If you tried that with me all I'd have to do is switch from missles to guns and hose you down with a 30mm cannon. This concludes todays lession. I'll try for another lession on Fri. Have fun and Godspeed. |

First off I wish to say that I'm sorry that I wasn't here on friday but I had a family emergency out in CA.
For todays lession I will do a small section and they''re everybodys favorite topic... weapons. I'll be talking about a few weapons on fighters that we use today. Chaff- Metal particles ejected from aircraft as decoys for radar seeking missles Flares- Basic its what it says. Used as decoys to distract heat seeking missles. AIM9 Sidewinder- Short range Air-to-air missle. Heat seeking. Only way to avoid it is to use flares to trick it away. Small and fast. AIM7 Sparrow- Medium Range Air-to-Air missle. Radar seeking missle. Only way to avoid is to use chaff. AIM54 Phoenix- Long range air-to-air missle. Radar seeking. Chaff is only way to dodge. AMRAAM- Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missle. Radar seeking. Chaff is the only way to decoy it away from you. AGM88A HARM- (High-speed-Anti-Radiation-Missles) Used for destroying enemy SAM (Surface-to-Air-Missles) and AAA (Anti-Aircraft-Artillary) radar. Seeker head looks for radar emissions from enemy radar and destroys it. JDAM- Joint Direct Attack Muninion. Air-to-Ground weapon. Receives satillite information for destroying specific target without civilian damage. JSOW- Joint Stand Off Weapon. Multiple and/or different warheads can be used. Early model of JDAM. T.V. guided. CB-67- Also known as the cluster bomb. Independant warheads. Before hitting ground it will launch several "pellets" of 50 lb explosives onto a target. Mostly used to destroy runways and airfields. BLU-87- Air dropped 5 kiloton nuclear warhead. No way to dodge it when it is released (duh!). Most likely to be dropped by a B-1A Spirit bomber. This for now. There will be more later. |

You are all... wrong! The correct answer is the new F-35. Made by Lockheed Martin. It has all the ablities of the F-22 (Ex: Stealth, Supercruise, ect.) except for a couple of things like: It can takeoff like a Harrier, it costs 1/3 of the price a Raptor, and this plane is made for ALL ARMED SERVICES! It's called the Joint Strike Fighter F-35 or JSF F-35. There are 3 different types and there are over 24 countries in line to buy this plane. It's really cool looking!

I may and may not. Hmmm.. let me see I believe I do. Here it is. I also found a complete article on the aircraft. Enjoy!
http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/jsf/jsf9.html http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/sys...ly-variants.jpg http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/sys.../x-35a-0269.jpg http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/sys...-35c-0606_5.jpg Military * F-35 Joint Strike Fighter * Joint Strike Fighter * X-32 - Boeing JSF * X-35 - Lockheed Martin JSF * JSF Program Status * JSF Specifications * JSF References F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) On 26 October 2001 the Pentagon announced that Lockheed-Martin had won the largest military contract ever, a possible $200 billion competition to build the Joint Strike Fighter. Air Force Secretary Jim Roche said on the basis of strengths, weaknesses and degrees of risk of the program that the Lockheed-Martin team was the winner on a "best- value" basis. He said Lockheed-Martin was a clear winner over the team led by Boeing. Total cost of the contract to enter the systems development and demonstration phase is $19 billion. Pratt and Whitney has a $4 billion contract to design and build propulsion systems for the craft. The British will contribute $2 billion to the program. Lockheed-Martin teamed with Northrop Grumman and British Aerospace on the project. Pete Aldridge, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, said that both teams "met or exceeded the performance objectives established for the aircraft and have met the established criteria and technical maturity for entering the next phase of the program." The Lockheed Martin X-35 was chosen over the competing Boeing X-32 primarily because of Lockheed's lift-fan STOVL design, which proved superior to the Boeing vectored-thrust approach. The lift fan, which is powered by the aircraft engine via a clutched driveshaft, was technically challenging but DoD concluded that Lockheed has the technology in hand. The lift fan has significant excess power which could be critical given the weight gain that all fighter aircraft experience. Lockheed Martin Corp. is developing the F-35 at its fighter aircraft plant in Fort Worth, where the new stealth warplane is expected to provide about 9,000 jobs over the next three to four decades. Northrop Grumman Corp. is to build the F-35's center fuselage in California and BAE Systems the aft body in England. The first operational Joint Strike Fighter, now designated as the F-35, is scheduled for delivery in fiscal 2008. The F-35 is actually a family of three aircraft designed to replace aircraft in the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and the British military. A total of 2,852 planes scheduled for delivery starting in 2008 for the US Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and a small number to the British Royal Navy. Other nations interested in participating in the program include the Netherlands, Belgium and Norway. Plans call for the F-35 to be the world's premier strike aircraft through 2040, Aldridge said. "It will provide air- to-air capability second only to the F-22 air superiority fighter," he said. The plane will allow the Air Force forces to field an almost all-stealth fighter force by 2025. The Navy and Marine variants will be the first deployment of an "all-aspect" stealth airplane. The Air Force's F-35A version of the craft is a conventional takeoff and landing airplane to replace the F- 16 Falcon and A-10 Thunderbolt II. It will partner with the F-22 Raptor. The Air Force plans to buy 1,763 of the aircraft. The Air Force JSF version is expected to cost about $37 million. The Marine Corps, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force need and want a short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft, dubbed the F-35B. The Marines want 609 of the new aircraft to replace their AV-8B Harriers and F/A-18 Hornets. The British want 150 to replace Sea Harriers and GR.7 Tornado fighters. The Navy's F-35C version of the plane is a carrier-based strike fighter to complement the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. It will replace earlier versions of the F/A-18 as well as the A-6 Intruder, which already has left the inventory. The Navy plans to purchase 480 JSF aircraft. The requirements of 1,763 strike fighters for the Air Force, 609 for the Marine Corps and 480 for the Navy have held steady since the 1997 Quadrennial Defense Review. Current program estimates peg the recurring JSF unit flyaway costs at $37 million for the Air Force conventional takeoff and landing variant, $46 million for the Marine Corps short takeoff vertical landing variant and $48 million for the Navy carrier version, in 2002 dollars. The Pentagon requested $3.4 billion for JSF development in fiscal year 2003, up from $1.5 billion in FY2002. The planned budget is $3.8 billion in fiscal 2004, $5.7 billion in 2005 and $5.7 billion in 2006. F-35/JSF production totals are more likely to be in the 4,000-5,000 aircraft range than the 6,000 sometimes cited. Eight other countries have agreed to invest a total of $4.375 billion over the next 10 years in the $25 billion Joint Strike Fighter program. Britain has pledged $2 billion, and is the only "Level I" partner in the program. Italy has pledged $1 billion as a Level II partner, and the Netherlands has also pledged to invest $800 million, also becoming a "Level II" partner. The "Level III" partners include Canada [which pledged $150 million], Denmark [$125 million], Norway [pledged to invest $125 million], and Turkey [pledging $175 million]. Australia has also expressed interest in the program. On May 28, 2002, Memorandum of Understanding documents were signed by the Danish National Armaments Director and the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, committing Denmark to participation in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) system development and demonstration phase. The commitment spans a period of 10 years. On June 17, 2002, the Netherlands also committed itself to the JSF's system development and demonstration (SDD) phase by exchanging with the Department of Defense memorandum of understanding (MOU) documents. These MOU documents were signed on June 5, 2002, on behalf of the Dutch Cabinet at Soesterberg Airbase (NL) with the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics countersigning the MOU documents in Washington, D.C. on June 10, 2002. As a result, the Netherlands will invest $800 million [€ 848 million] in the SDD effort. The Netherlands has been part of the JSF program since 1997. The Netherlands became the fourth country to join as a JSF SDD phase partner, and the first 'Level 2' partner. The Dutch commitment spans ten years. For the previous two and a half years, the Netherlands had conducted a rigorous technical and financial analysis of potential candidates to replace its F-16s. In both assessments, the JSF ranked first. On June 20, 2002, the Norwegian National Armaments Director and the U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology signed memorandum of understanding documents committing Norway to participation in the Joint Strike Fighter system development and demonstration (SDD) phase for a period of ten years. On June 24, 2002, the Italian Secretary General of Defense and National Armaments Director and the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics signed and exchanged memorandum of understanding (MOU) documents for Italian partnership in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) System Development and Demonstration (SDD) phase. Under the previous Concept Demonstration Phase (CDP) MOU from 1998 to 2001, both the United States and Italy had benefited from JSF ship suitability efforts and associated environmental studies. The Italian government was, as a result, to invest $1.028 billion [€ 1.09 Billion] in the SDD phase. As the senior Level II partner, Italian Air Force and Navy personnel is to occupy five positions within the JSF Program Office. These individuals are to be working together with the United States and its international partners, as well as the JSF air system and engine contractors, to develop an affordable system ready for transition to production. In late June 2002 the Australian Government decided buy Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. Australia intends to buy up to 100 aircraft, at a cost of more than US$ 4.5 billion [$8 billion Australian], to replace Australia's aging F/A-18s and F-111s. In October 2002 Australia committed to provide $150 million for development of the F-35. Eight nations have pledged about $4.5 billion to join the United States in the $25 billion development phase of the program. On July 11, 2002, the Under Secretary for Defense Industries of the Turkish Ministry of Defense signed a $175 million memorandum of understanding (MOU) for Turkish partnership in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) systems development and demonstration (SDD) phase. Turkey had taken part in the JSF's concept demonstration phase (CDP) to begin its association through foreign military sales for $6.2 million. As a CDP partner Turkey gained significant insight into the program concepts and requirements definition and participated in various capabilities modeling and simulation events. Included in these efforts was a life cycle cost control study, an important area of consideration for the Turkish Air Force that examined the changes to Air Force logistics that should be accomplished to support their JSF aircraft. As a Level III partner, Turkey will participate over the next 10 years of the systems development and demonstration phase. The original plan was to build 3,002 JSFs in three versions for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps and the British Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. As of late March 2002 the Pentagon was reviewing a proposal to cut JSF production by 400 aircraft and limit the Navy's F/A-18E/F acquisition to 460 aircraft versus 548. The JSF reductions, which would be split about equally between the Marine Corps STOVL and the Navy's carrier versions, would reduce JSF procurement by the Navy and Marines from 1089 aircraft to 680. The Navy cut would reduce the total buy to about 2,600. Recent DoD working groups and conferences have begun to question community acceptance strategies for some new weapons systems. In particular, the Joint Strike Fighter may face a variety of challenges in several potential beddown locations. The aircraft generates an extraordinary amount of thrust from its single engine, and according to preliminary analyses, does so at some cost in noise and air quality. Preliminary analysis of the San Diego area has revealed air quality limitations that may preclude unrestricted operation of the STOVL (Short Takeoff, Vertical Landing) version of the aircraft that will be procured by the USMC. The highest thrust settings for the aircraft’s F-119 engine will occur during transition to and from vertical flight. Noise and emissions, especially of oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), may exceed those encountered in any equivalent engine. By the end of 2003 it appeared that the cost of developing the Joint Strike Fighter, a radar-evading jet, could increase by as much as $5 billion, to $38 billion, and the project could fall more than a year behind schedule. The increase would be mostly because of the higher-than-expected cost of developing parts of the technology and the addition of new capabilities for the fighter jet. Part of the additional cost would be to add anti-tampering technology to the plane, which would prevent foreign buyers from replicating sensitive systems. That could add $1 billion to $2 billion to the program's budget. The proposed increase would also put aside more money for unforeseen changes in design requested by the military or for development problems. The Joint Strike Fighter is expected to be the largest weapons program in Pentagon history, ultimately costing nearly $200 billion. The first fighter is expected to enter service in 2008. According to the DOT&E, weight growth is a significant risk for all three variants of the F-35 JSF. Aircraft weight is not a key performance parameter, but weight does impact the aircraft’s ability to satisfy key performance requirements. No variant of the F- 35 JSF design exceeds the weight at which key performance parameters predictions are breached; however, the STOVL design remained consistently above target weight projections. The JPO has been aggressively pursuing weight reduction initiatives. Additional aircraft weight reductions are required, particularly in the case of the STOVL variant, to satisfy all key performance parameters and preserve sufficient weight reserve for post SDD block upgrades. The F-35 JSF Program SDD schedule is aggressive and aircraft weight reduction efforts have eroded a significant portion of available development time. The first flight of the U.S. Air Force conventional takeoff and landing variant will be in 2005, followed by the STOVL variant. This schedule is very challenging. The F-35 JSF Program should remain event driven with continued weight reduction efforts and design optimization before producing SDD test aircraft. The decisions the JPO face at this point in the program are significant drivers to cost and performance limitations through the life cycle of an aircraft. -------------------- |

Hey Viper,
I think I saw this plane on the Military Channel about six months ago . . . In my opinion it closely resembles the F22. Correct me if I am wrong, but the best thing about this aircraft along with its Vtol is the fact that it can go supersonic unlike the Harrier that is limited to the thrust that the lift jets can produce. BTW, congratualtions on your upcoming retirement. Did you get a chance to see the beginning of the second half of the season of SG-1, Atlantis and Battlestar? I hope my synopsis that I emailed you was enough for you to get the general idea about the shows. I will talk to you later. SG-14 -------------------- |

Collins, it is never to late to join the class. However I have one rule about the class. I have to assign you a (dun dun dun dun... Lighting flashes with wolve howling in the backround) callsign. What should we call you? Bevis? No! Let's see... how about Steel? How's that sound. You seem to have a strong personality so I think this would be perfect. So, From now on you will be known as Steel. Congradulations. This is a big step in your training my young Padawan. Listen well, you should. Just to let you know my callsign as you might of guessed is Viper. The reason for that is because I got bit by one. I was stationed at Edwards and a snake wassome how able to get through the wheel well area and was down in the rudder petals. Sure enough he bit me right on the calf. Luckly, it was young and it couldn't give out a leathel dose to a human. In the end though I won. Some one had a pair of those trash tongs, brought him out and I shot him. I know it wasn't the right thing to do but I was mad and that's how we did things back then. Well, enough about me. I will post again about dogfighting soon. See y'all later!

Steel, awesome! I like it.
Hell, I would have shot that snake too. There is nothing wrong with that, he shouldnt have been there in the first place. But at least you got one of the best callsigns someone could have. Viper. Doesnt get much better then that. Thank you Viper, I look forward to your next class. -------------------- Major General

Okay now. Lessions, lessions, and even more lessions. Today's lession is communications. Here we go.
Now as you know, communications is a vital part of combat. I'll be teaching you how to talk while in the air. For an example I'll use the code name Hawk for me and Thunder for combat flight command. You ONLY use your callsign when talking to your wingman. Here's the example: Me: Thunder, Hawk 1. 3 Bogeys. MIG-29. Clear to Ident? CFC: Hawk 1, Thunder. Clear to Ident. ROE in full effect. Me: Thunder, Hawk 1. Copy. Clear to Ident. ROE in full effect. Basically what I'm saying is, is that I've come across 3 MIG-29's. I'm asking to get a visual comfermation. What the CFC is saying "ROE in full effect" means Rules of engagement. Meaning, DO NOT fire until fired upon. Here's another example: Me: Thunder, Hawk 1. Bingo. Requesting vectors for recovery. CFC: Hawk 1, Thunder. Copy. Turn right, heading 214. Call final. Me: Thunder, Hawk 1. Copy. Turning right to 214 (after a certain time). Thunder, Hawk 1. Final. CFC: Copy. Clear to taxiway and hold. Long story short, I'm landing. "Bingo" is an internation term for low on fuel. Recovery is the word we use for land. Final means you are close to land but not there yet. You tell the tower this to insure that there is no aircraft on the runway. Trust me, you don't want to land on a stationary plane. Here is a example where I'm working with an AWACS, lets call it Sentry, and I'll have a few wingmen working with me. Me: Hawk flight, go fingertips on the right. Hawk Flight: Two. Three. Me: Sentry, Hawk 1. Hawk flight is available. Sentry: Hawk 1, Sentry. Flight of 2 SU-27's. Cleared at 004 @ Angels 3. Me: Sentry, Hawk 1. Hawk flight copys. Cleared at 004 @ Angels 3. Weapons and nose hot. "Fingertips" is a kind of formation. When the flight say their #'s that means they copy. "Weapons and nose hot" mean that my weapons are armed and my attack radar is on passive. Meaning that I'm scanning the skies for hostiles. Here's one last example. Lets say that I'm engaged and that I have an enemy attacking me from behind. Me: Sentry, Hawk 1. Declare! Hawk 1 is defensive. Requesting relief. Sentry: Hawk 1, Sentry. Copy. Support inbound. ETA 3 mins. Me: Sentry, Hawk 1. Copy. Hawk 1 is on Guard. "Relief" is what we use to ask for help or to have a different flight take over. "Guard" is an international signal/frequency that is used for emergency situations. Here's the lession. Have fun with it. Colonel Viper24 Commandant of Air Combat and Space Training Command -------------------- |

I'm in Hawaii. Here's the low down on what I'm in charge of.
The C-17 Globemaster III is a high-wing, four-engine, T-tailed aircraft with a rear loading ramp. In 1980, the U.S. Air Force asked for a larger transport that could be refueled in flight and use rough forward fields so that it could fly anywhere in the world. On Aug. 28, 1981, McDonnell Douglas won the contract with its proposal to build the C-17. The design met or exceeded all Air Force design specifications, and the huge transport was able to use runways at 19,000 airfields. The C-17 is built in Long Beach, Calif. The first C-17 squadron was operational in January 1995. Since then the C-17 fleet has amassed more than 75,000 flying hours and has been involved in numerous contingency operations, including flying troops and equipment to Operation Joint Endeavor to support peacekeeping in Bosnia and the Allied Operation in Kosovo. Eight C-17s, in 1998, completed the longest airdrop mission in history, flying more than 8,000 nautical miles from the United States to Central Asia, dropping troops and equipment after more than 19 hours in the air. With its 160,000-pound payload, the C-17 can take off from a 7,600-foot airfield, fly 2,400 nautical miles and land on a small, austere airfield in 3,000 feet or less. The C-17 can be refueled in flight. On the ground, a fully loaded aircraft, using engine reversers, can back up a 2 percent slope. During normal testing, C-17s have set 33 world records, including payload to altitude time-to-climb and the short takeoff and landing mark, in which the C-17 took off in less than 1,400 feet, carried a payload of 44,000 pounds to altitude and landed in less than 1,400 feet. Boeing is under contract with the Air Force to build and deliver 100 C-17s through at least 2008. In May 1995, the C-17 received the prestigious Collier Trophy, symbolizing the top aeronautical achievement of 1994. In February 1999, President Bill Clinton presented the nation's top award for quality -- the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award -- to Boeing Airlift and Tanker Programs, maker of the C-17, for business excellence. the C17, does it have similar controls to that of the CK10?
I've logged a few hours in the simulator for that. I've even gotten to see the simulator for the F15-E. My best friend's father in High School was a retired Col that used to instruct on those. I used to want to be a pilot growing up, too bad I'm legally blind |

At the Base. My Squad will take out the Control tower with JDAM missiles. While the A-10's take out the Runways with GBU-67 Cluster Bombs. 2nd squad will use a few JSOWs to take out the Armored Hanger. -------------------- Major General
