On the topic of getting involved, I'm very intrigued by the idea of members, mods, and admins putting our heads together to figure out how we can advance this site and make it even better. Sure, this site is awesome, but I've learned (through mishandling my own site and so witnessing its quick and painful rise and fall, though it didn't even begin to compare to this) that if a site doesn't constantly make strides to grow and become bigger and even more attractive to fans, it is in jeopardy of fading away. It really is a win-win situation, I mean, who doesn't want to keep improving upon the site to make it the best it can be?
My suggestions are simple concepts, if not a bit ambitious. I love the feeling of this forum in how it is so much more welcoming than those at other sites, and this is largely due to its size- here we have a small group of passionate individuals who are kind and accepting, and I love that, but I also think that this is such a great website that we should try to grow. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the word out?
My second suggestion is much more ambitious, especially since we're all people who actually have lives and don't want to be pouring a huge amount of time into a website, but wouldn't it be interesting to expand beyond just a forum? I'm not talking about just adding episode guides and whatnot, but also adding some interesting features like live chats during new SciFi episodes for those interested, reviews written by members, and possibly a fan podcast run by two or three members especially talented in being podcast personalities. I'm sure that there are a few members out there at least partially knowledgable in web design (if not more than 'partially'), and judging by the great quality of this forum, I'm sure a site, while a big undertaking, would be excellent.
Please keep in mind that these are just suggestions; I don't at all mean to step on the toes of the moderators or administrators. Any feedback?

Great ideas. Don't ever be afraid to share them. This is a board for the posters, by the posters.

On the bottom of the page is some links to past endeavours at ASGC official websites. I don't believe much has been done with them lately because the actualy owners of those sites have been trapped by the dreaded real life responsibility monster.

I know a lot of members have been inviting their friends, and some of them have even been taking us up on those invitations. That's where a lot of our growth has been coming from. I agree with you about the atmosphere here. It's very cool. A lot of that comes from the fact that most of our more active members are all refugees from troll infested boards. They know what makes a bad board and have been determined not to let that happen here.

I'll make sure I post a link to this in the Colonel's Forum so that the rest of the leadership team sees this as well.

I feel that if you just tell people that you know how great this board is..it will sell itself....and remember the reason that it is good is because there are no A$$holes who like to start drama for no reason.... tongue.gif

Hey, Welcome aboard, i see you got your rank, that is cool. That is some good ideas. You see as Scifi keeps getting worse which it has, people will start to come here. The scifi admins have do not care about the fans like we do over here. Anyway, have fun, and spread the word!

Does TanaOneill still hang around here? It would be great if we could get some more work done on her Official ASGC site.

Very rarely. When she does post it's mostly at the SciFi board.

I think that's pretty much the general consensus around here. We're poor, so we all invest in cool sites like this one.

Small suggestion here, though I don't know if the average forum design would allow for it- Wouldn't it be cool if when you changed your sig/avatar it was only changed for the posts from then on in? I mean, it's cool when people change their stuff, but it'd also be cool to see people's old setups.

I don't think that's possible. There's only so much you can do on a free board.

Yeah, I know you can't change the fundamental design of a forum provided by another website- maybe I'll suggest it on one of the providing sites.

I've noticed on several boards that a lot of fans miss new Stargate episodes and are really bummed about it. Would it be possible (or legal?) to have fans mail other fans tapes of the episodes? I fail to see how technically it would be illegal, seeing that I give tapes to friends all the time, and mailing them should be the same with more distance involved. All it would take is fans giving other fans their address for mailing, and everyone would be a little bit happier. Does anyone like the idea? How do you go about making copies of VHS's?

From a legal standpoint, it's a similar kind of thing as what Napster went through. But of course, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or in this case what happens off the boards stays off the boards.

i was invited over from another board and no one really knew me there or here. I just never really posted at the other board, too much trolling and all that junk. I would try to find threads that talked about the show and the actors rather than the actors preferences in underwear. (ya, tee-hee, tee-hee. I am a bit old for the teeny-bopper stuff).

I think that is a good way to increase numbers. As i will now tell a friend or two that are into sci-fi about this board.

I thank whoever did invite me over. I am not even sure who it was but i am grateful.

I like your inputs smile.gif

As for our little community:
We are all aiming to have a nice time on our forum. and hence we are quick to weed out trolls and such. (we have the occational twat coming here but us Admins take them down with zats and toss them into black holes)

As for website, hmm. well contact2918 has a nice site going. (could be a start)
I don't really know about building anything fancy(did do my workplace website when we got a domain but it was done along with another co worker(who has had the update on it)) But I can make basic(very basic) info sites.
But I don't have the means to have it running at all..

But anyone with the Front Page program can make a basic site.
So anyone that has the means to buy/rent Tana's domain(and keep it up) and start creating one is very welcome to do so. smile.gif

What provider did Tana get her site off? (Basically, how much would it cost a user to "rent" her site?)

Alright, well this idea is starting to shape itself- the URL asgardsgc.com is available and is relatively cheap. Seeing that I'm unable to view Tana's previous site, what type of features did it have (and what type of features would you all like incorporated?)?

Gateworld have a news feed code that you can add to a website. I use it on mine. That would probably be a good feature for starters. Also, feel free to add the "Official ASGC Banners" that are on the Stargate Artwork forum. That's all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment.

well I've green-lighted this site.
I have given these wishes: (quoted from pm to Klingon)

QUOTE
- the "biography" of the asgard
- the ASGC rankings and such
. stuff about the stargate series
- user created material (fan fics/art/grapics and such..)
- and a non-light colored background (as they aren't very nice to look at for the eyes) white is banned as background color to put it that way..

I remember after the last ASGC mission ended the idea was tossed around to have mission reports created by the various teams involved- I think that this is a great idea and think that this would be a great feature for the site. What do you guys think?

Alright guys, the URL asgardstargatecommand.com has been purchased and is a work in progress- Right now I'm trying to get the basic feel for what the site should look like, and haven't uploaded anything definitive yet. I'll keep you all posted, and as always, your suggestions and input are welcome and needed.

Unfortunately the evil real-life responsibilities beast has once again reared its ugly head, and I've more or less been taken away from the project. However, I promise to have some results of one sort or another soon, as this idea still excites me. Keep you all posted biggrin.gif

the Real Life Monster needs to be given a hard sidekick in the head sometimes ^^

Too bad it keeps kicking back! thor_beatup.gif

Stupid RL Monster.....always getting in the way, and kicking you, and punching and all that stuff.

Really sorry, guys; I've been busy. Honestly, this project hasn't gone past the conceptual stage yet because I just don't have the time nor the experience needed for this type of thing. I'd love to keep this idea going if anyone thinks they have the web skills and devotion for the project. It would be great to keep this project going, but I've decided that I'm not really the material for the job of doing the technical stuff. Once again, sorry to dissapoint any of you, but I'm more of a conceptual guy, and would be thrilled to make this a community project if someone tech-savvy could step up.

That darn RL monster... shepp_thumbsdown.gif

I've been fighting him as well. Possibly in a few months if things settle down, I could pick this up and run with it, but it'll be awhile. In the meantime, why don't we start making a list of everything we want to see in an ASGC official website.
