[Chris 02]

Small paws padded slowly across the blades of grass.. The small animal stopped and sniffed the air, making a squeak, and continued to walk on.. The small animal was a mouse; a mouse destined to be slain.. The mouse stopped again, feeling pawstep vibrations.. Almost instantly, a paw whacked the mouse up into the air. The mouse hit the ground, stunned.. Claws stabbed into the flesh of the mouse.. A high pitched squeal came from the mouse as it instantly died..

"Another catch for Blazepaw, the greatest apprentice alive!" the victor joked as he dug a small hole and buried his kill in it.. The apprentice immediatly began stalking towards a pigeon as soon as he scented it.. Approaching the bird, he leapt towards it and slashed it.. The bird was immobilized, but also not beaten. Blazepaw dipped his head towards the bird and sank his teeth into it, thus killing it.. Blazepaw picked up the bird and tossed it by where he buried the mouse.. "I hope Dovepaw is impressed by these prey I caught..." Blazepaw shook his head. "Snap out of it.. You...don't care.." he told himself trying to convince himself. Blazepaw went back on catching prey for the elders of his clan, Thunderclan.

A young feline stalked across the grass. Her cloud-white paws made no noise. Her attention was focused solely on the mouse in front of her. She paused once, when the mouse raised its head, tensing her muscles to strike. But then the creature ignored whatever warning it had recieved, and she managed to get a few steps closer. Then, she poiunced, landing on the mouse and killing it with one swipe. She smell wafted into her nostrils, making her hungry, but she resolved not to eat anything until the clan was fed.

Dovepaw covered her prey with dirt to retrieve later and continued her hunt. She climbed a tree to see if she could spot any prey. Her claws dug into the bark as she climbed, and finally she reached a low limb. She scanned the surrounding area, her eyes being caught by a patch of orange-red in the otherwise green-tinted forest. Her ears pricked. Blaze paw! she mewed to herself. She saw him catch a pigeon, and leaped from her tree, hitting the ground running. Soon, she caught up to him. Hi Blazepaw! Nice catch, she mewed. I only caught a mouse. Pidgeon's much better.

Blazepaw soon spotted another mouse. He began to sneak up to the mouse, taking very light steps. As soon as he came close to the prey, it bolted off, running towards a small hole in the ground. Blazepaw started to run after it but was too late. The mouse had went into the hole.

Blazepaw decided to head back to the camp, so he ran over to the kill he had already caught. As he arrived by his prey, he heard Dovepaw's voice. He spun around and his icy blue eyes looked in the direction of Dovepaw, the same Dovepaw he was just thinking about.

"Dovepaw, Hi." Hearing the compliment towards his catch, the orange/red apprentice replied, "Thanks, but the clan will still be grateful for what you caught" Blazepaw, without thinking, changed him mind about going back to the camp so he can talk with Dovepaw.

Dovepaw continued to make a beeline for him. She stopped as she neared him, lowering her haunches to the ground. After licking her chest fur really quickly, as was habit, she spoke. That's true, but I do like to catch cool stuff, she replied wistfully. That was really cool. She sighed. I have probalems catching birds, she said with a laugh. She really did, and stuck to the land-bound creatures. How do you do it? she aksed curiously. I haven't gotten there with my mentor yet.

Blazepaw began feeling nervous as Dovepaw, the apprentice he loved, walk up to him. "Really-I mean, yeah, it was cool. The way my mentor taught me to catch birds w-was like this. You need to sneak up to the bird, making sure you don't make a sound." he replied enacting how the sneaking would go, "Then, as you get closer to the bird, you w-would leap towards it and then slash its wings so it can't fly away. Then, after doing that, you would kill it. But I would wait until your mentor shows you, I probably shouldn't be teaching you anything.."

Dovepaw nodded periodically as he explained how he caught the bird. She tucked the information away in her mind for later. Cool. She winced inwardly. Could you say cool one more time? I suppose I should wait for my mentor... she mewed, then sighed. But I'm so impatient! She released a mrrrow of laughter, then stood and stretched. I'm really restless. D'you want to go to the river really quick? It ought to be a nice day to go. Although she was in ThunderClan, she enjoyed watching the river. It was peaceful.

Blazepaw looked at his catch after Dovepaw spoke. "Sure..I guess I'll just leave these here and come back for them later." Blazepaw quickly covered the pigeon he caught earlier with dirt and the two apprentices began to walk towards the river.

Sure, Blazepaw, just go ahead and leave the kill there to rot or for some rogue to run off with. Getting in trouble with Vaporstar is perfectly fine, as long as you get to hang out with Dovepaw at the river Blazepaw thought as he and Dovepaw walked towards the river.

Soon, they arrived at the river. "Here we are.." Blazepaw meowed. As he looked closer at the river, he noticed something. "You were right, this river is peaceful.."

Dovepaw grinned. Race you! she said, then bolted forwards. When they reached the river, she started at it, awestruck as always. She nodded when Blazepaw spoke. I love to watch the river. It's so peaceful. She fell silent, but a few moments later spoke again. Come on! she said as she bolted towards a tree, climbing it nimbly to sit on a low branch. From there, she could see through some of the vegetation. If anyone were coming, they'd know from there. Dovepaw sighed. It was so nice to be with her friend relaxing.

Blazepaw stood up and went over to the tree that Dovepaw had started to climb. He shivered and gulped. I hate climbing.. he thought as he began to climb up the tree after Dovepaw. Blazepaw could excel at many different things but climbing and him didn't really get along at all. Sure, he could climb up things, but had a terrible fear of heights.

He slowly climbed up the tree until he reached Dovepaw's branch. Then, he sat next to Dovepaw, just hoping that the branch didn't break. He sighed. Doing all this to hang out with Dovepaw.. Pure desperation, the flame pelted apprentice thought.

"Um...Dovepaw? I really like...being with you.. By this peacful river.." Blazepaw said kinda nervously.

Dovepaw gazed across the lands, her eyes soft. The beauty and peacfulness thoroughly engulfed her; she felt as though in a dream. In the back of her mind, a littl evoice peeped up. D'you think maybe you might be showing off a bit for Blazepaw? Startled, the she-cat glanced down the tree to see the other apprentice climbing up. She abruptly looked back up, her eyes now troubled as she looked over the river. Her tail flicked slightly, but she clamped her will down on it and forced herself to give nothing away. Ah, said the little voice, so you were. She tried to tell herself that she wasn't showing off, but knew it was useless - she really was.

She heard him sigh beside her, and looked over inquiringly. Her peircing eyes watched him. She was going to ask if he was alright when he spoke. His wordsw caused her heart to quicken its pace, drumming against her ears. She knew that he surely must hear it, for it was very loud... She forced herself to calm down, her tail beginning to twitch nervously. Yeah, it is... she breathed nervously. It's really nice. She was then silent, and concentrated on forcing herself to relax. Surely he must be able to tell she was acting strange, because she could tell he was acting weird. She breathed in a deep, calming breath.

Blazepaw watched Dovepaw as she spoke. He saw her tail twitch. She must be nervous...as nervous as me. he thought. He started to become less nervous.

He looked down, directly down the tree and his breathing rate quickened. His heart beat began racing. He unsheathed his claws and dug them into the tree branch to keep himself onto the branch.

I...I can't take this, but the view is great, Blazepaw thought as he looked forward. He saw how much smaller everything looked, even though he wasn't at the top of the tree.

It was such a nice view. One could look down and see everything without being spotted from here. And Dovepaw watched it all happily. Then, she heard a sound from Blazepaw, digging his claws into the tree. Dovepaw started, swivelling her head around to look at Blazepaw again. a tinge of regret became visible in her demeanor. I should have asked what he wanted to do, not just dragged him off! she thought. Worry shrouded her gaze. He seemed overly tense. Are you ok? she questioned. The young she-cat shifted her weight from paw to paw, feeling awkward.

Blazepaw immediatly sheathed his claws right when he heard Dovepaw's voice. "Yeah..I'm fine..but you, as well as most of the clan, may or may not already know this, but I have a slight fear of heights. For me, it's kinda embarassing.. I just didn't want you to know...I thought you'd think I'm a wimp.." the apprentice admitted shamefully.

That's not the only secret... There's still your love for her. No, I won't tell her...yet that is, Blazepaw thought having a small argument in his head.

Dovepaw was relieved when he said he was fine, but guilt immediately washed over her when he confessed his fear. She couldn't grasp the idea of anyone fearing heights, but didn't voice this aloud. Instead, she gave him a comforting lick on her cheek. I'm so-o-o sorry! If I'd known that I wouldn't have dragged you up here. Let's go back down. Her voice was earnest, and slightly embarassed. She should have asked what he wanted. I'm just... I don't think, sometimes. She winced, then began to climb down.

Once down, she turned to him again. I don't think you're a wimp, she said flatly. Everyone has fears, even me. You know, I'm terrified of snakes. I hate going hunting anywhere near where they might be. Her ears turned back, and she shuddered. I didn't want anyone to know either, 'cause I like going hunting... it's just... she trailed off. I'll probably try to train myself out of it. She sighed and nudged Blazepaw affectionately. He was such a nice guy, which was a quality that the other apprentices lacked.

I'm so-o-o sorry! If I'd known that I wouldn't have dragged you up here. Let's go back down, Dovepaw had said to Blazepaw.

"It's not your fault, it's mainly mine... If I had told you first, we wouldn't be up here, not that it wasn't a good thought," Blazepaw meowed after Dovepaw spoke and gave him a lick on his cheek.

I'm just... I don't think, sometimes, Dovepaw had said to Blazepaw. Blazepaw noticed Dovepaw wince before she. I...I must have made her feel like she's not smart or something.. I should have just kept my mouth shut about my heights problem. Blazepaw thought as he began to climb down the tree.

When Blazepaw climbed to the bottom of the tree, he jumped off and landed on the ground.

Dovepaw nudged Blazepaw affectionately, but his eyes were focused on the ground. "I'm sorry for ruining this for you... You wanted to have a good time and I ruined it for you," Blazepaw's tail was barely in the air, "I'm really sorry.."
