It had been a few days since the Hatching but there was still a good deal of excitement for some at least. N'kar had been carefully tending to the needs of his brown dragonet to the point that he had almost forgotten to take care of himself twice. It was easy to ignore a growling stomach when there was a growing dragonet to look after. It was amazing how much could change so quickly sometimes. Rhiunth was quite the handful, always wandering around and getting into things. And he asked so many questions! The little brown was such an inquisitive dragonet. N'kar wasn't entirely sure whether that was just because he was so young or if that was just his personality. He would have to make a note to ask some of the other weyrlings if their partners were like that as well.

Even through all the questioning, Rhiunth managed to remember (quite often) to remind his bonded of the promise to go exploring. Finally, when the pair had a moment of spare time, the young brown had gotten him to cave in to this promise. With a laugh, he led Rhiunth out of their room and toward the lake. It seemed like a good place to start.

"Alright you, here we are. The lake. Beautiful, isn't it?" N'kar said aloud to Rhiunth as he took in a deep breath. The dragonet scanned the scene interestedly as he came to a stop behind his rider.

'That is a lot of water in one place. It looks fun to play in. Can we swim?' Rhiunth asked, inching closer to the water. Upon reaching the water's edge, the dragonet dipped his nose into the water. He withdrew it quickly, the cold water a bit of a surprise. 'It is very cold. Maybe I will just play NEXT to the water instead. I do not wish to freeze.' Rhiunth said as he turned around and began to chase a bug.

N'kar laughed. "You silly brown, it isn't that cold. You'll like it when it gets warmer here. If you happen to change your mind, let me know and I'll swim out with you." the boy said as he reclined on the shore. From there he could watch as his partner bounded around after the bug.

High above the lake, another brown dragon soared. But he was no mere hatchling. Oh no. He was Virth! The mightiest and swiftest of browns! Ruler of the skies! Lover to greens and golds alike! Stronger than any other! Able to outfly even the strongest of bronzes. Able to outmaneuver the most agile of greens. Able to court a female better than the most suave of blues. Oh yes. He was Virth! The strongest, the bravest, the mightiest, the smoothest, most graceful, generous, trustworthy browns ever to grace the Weyr of Aleyeska!

Done boosting you own ego yet? a droll voice interrupted the small brown's musings. Virth instantly stopped his internal monologue as he flew and straightened out from his dives and turns to glide sedately over the Weyr, looking down at the lake.

Spoil my fun, why don't you, the dragon replied, drooping his body dejectedly in flight as his rider just chuckled.

Plenty of funner things to do around here, my friend, E'lon answered, patting his brown's sandy hide. Why don't we go and find them?

I already have an idea. Those words were the worst things E'lon could ever hear come from his dragon. With a sudden shift that had E'lon scrambling to grab hold of his dragon's neck, Virth turned over on himself and dove from the sky, heading straight for the lake. As he drew near, he spread his wings slightly to slow him down, but the splash he made as he entered the water was still quite substantial. E'lon barely had time to get enough of a breath before the icy water hit him. Why did Virth always have to dunk him when he was fully dressed? The dragon surfaced with a spray of water as he blew it from his nose and looked about him, teeth flashing brightly with his dragonsmile. When he spotted the young brown on the beach, he just had to say hi.

Hello there, young Brother! he called happily with a jubilant bugle. He paddled around a little as Eo slid off his dragon's neck and began the swim to shore. If he was going to be in the water, he was at least going to be in less clothing. The brown went in a circle as he looked at the miniture version of himself chasing bugs on the shore. Care to join me in the water for a swim?

The arrival of the older dragon and his rider caught both Rhiunth and N'kar by surprise. Neither had noticed the brown in the air until he was practically in the water. It just happened to be his luck that the resulting splash caught N'kar full in the face. Sputtering, the boy stood up and began to wipe the water from his face.

'N'kar Mine! Look! Another dragon, one like me!' Rhiunth hopped about excitedly. He had yet to meet another brown like himself. 'Greetings great brother! You are very big!' he said to the older dragon.

N'kar just shook his head, laughing. His little dragonet had a lot to learn. He waved politely to the not-so-pleased looking rider that had been dragged into the water with his dragon. In a way, the display almost made him glad Rhiunth couldn't fly just yet. The way the young brown behaved, he had a feeling that he was likely to end up in situations similar to this other rider's quite often.

"Hello there! Need a hand?" N'kar asked, jogging over to meet the man as he neared the shore. "Looks like a lot of fun. Do you sneak up on people like this often?" he joked, trying to lighten the brownrider's mood a little.

Meanwhile, Rhiunth had bounded off into the water. He went out as far as the water coming up to his knees before he stopped. 'Yes! I would love to swim with you. Mine, I do wish to swim now. Can I? Can I please?' the dragonet begged his rider. Again, all N'kar could do was laugh at his silly brown.

Go ahead Rhiunth, just be careful. I'll be out there to join you in a minute or so. N'kar answered cheerfully, watching his little dragon as he excitedly waded, and eventually paddled, out to the other brown.

Farther down the lake near a fairly large boulder sat Ebony with her sketch pad in hand, Hintreth was a couple feet in front of her posing. He stands proudly and his little wings are spread out high above his head and his neck is arched regally and tail curled around his right back leg. The young girl he called his own was intensely focused on drawing him, her hands flying over the parchment with practiced ease and skill. The little blue was more than happy to be her model. 'Alright Hintreth, now tilt your head just a little bit to the left. There you go! You are being a very good boy about this love. Sure you don't want to stop and stretch for a moment?' ,Ebony's words were filled with concern.

Hintreth's eyes whirled a happy rainbow before he responded. 'I am alright Ebby! It makes me happy to help you do this. I can wait a little longer.' ,he let out a soft chirp to confirm his words. Ebony smiled brightly and simply nodded before continuing. 'Thanks Hint. All I need to finish is your head and then we can go play all you want for the rest of the day ok?' ,Hintreth purred joyously at these words. Only a few seconds pass and the young girl smirks and lets out a sigh. She was finished. And even as she thought this Hintreth was climbing into her lap and eagerly looking at the picture. 'Oh oh! It looks so nice! Just like me Ebby! But it needs to have color...Can you put color?' ,Ebony giggled at his words. 'Sure my dear I could add a little color if you would like...' ,her train of thought is interrupted by the sound of a large splash coming from further up the lake.

Both Hintreth and Ebony looked in the directing of the racket with questioning gazes and very curious minds. "I wonder what that was...hmmm perhaps we should go see..." ,Hintreth nodded in agreement as they both stood and started walking toward all the noise. Once they got close enough to see Hintreth became excited and started bouncing calling out a greeting to his fellow dragons. 'Hi there Rhiunth! Hello bigger brother brown! My name is Hintreth, its nice to meet you.' ,Ebony ran after him trying to get him to stop. "H-Hintreth! Wait! Don't just run off like that!" ,but of course it was to late. She caught up, out of breath and leaning forward on her legs trying to catch it again. "H-hello....N'kar....and...um...I-i don't think I've met you..."

Virth preened in the compliment of the Weyrling, though his rider made sure to comment that Virth would be very big indeed to such a small dragon as a Hatcling. He flared his wings slightly, sending spring chilly water into the air. I am Virth, little Brother, he said with a croon to the young brown as he started to waddle out to the lake shore. Virth swam in a small circle as the young brown swam over to him. As Rhuinth reached him, the larger brown ducked his nose below the water and blew a series of bubbles at the young one. Who knew the acrobatic brown liked hatchlings so much? You're very brave for swimming all the way out here, VIrth commented as he continued to blow bubbles, keeping himself afloat by spreading his wings wide.

And then another hatchling was coming to greet them. Little Hintreth. Virth raised his head and bugled a welcome to the little one. Hello there, Hintreth! he said happily, eyes whirling a very bright green as he watched the small blue. I am Virth. Glad to see you have decided to join young Rhuinth and myself.

"Do my best not to sneak up on people anymore," Eo said as he finally made it to the shore and climbed out. He then began squeezing the water from his clothing. "Used to. Not so much since Virth." There was a sparkle in E'lon's eye that hinted at something, some mischief he used to get into, but he wasn't going to give anything away so easily. Being a former thief, stealth had been key. But not since Virth. No need to steal now. E'lon looked up as he heard another set of footsteps draw near. Oh. And his attention was very much caught. The rider of the young blue then. And she was shy...

"I'm E'lon, Virth's rider," the brownrider said, his typical confident grin on his face as he bowed slightly. When he straightened, he motioned behind him towards the brown covorting with the two young dragons in the lake. "The big brute's mine."

((sorry this is not very good, y'all.))

Rhiunth flung his head back happily in the spray sent from Virth's wings. The older brown's compliment made the hatchling's mood soar. He circled the bubbles a time or two, trying to get a hang of the whole 'swimming' thing so as not to embarrass himself in front of his great brother. 'You are very kind, Virth.' the little one replied, joy and pride filling his tone. 'I've never met another brown dragon like me! I've never tried swimming either... This is exciting!' Rhiunth cooed as he tried something a little more daring than just swimming in circles. Playfully, the young brown stuck his own nose into the water and flicked a small splash of water toward Virth. He giggled internally. No one told him water could be so much fun!

Hintreth's voice both surprised Rhiunth and excited him further. Forgetting how new he was at swimming he tried to turn around faster than he was capable. Instead of turning to face his blue brother, the brown managed to dunk his entire front half underwater. Surprised, he resurfaced, large wings flared. He shook the water from his face and steadied himself with his wings before turning- slowly this time- to greet his friend.

'Hintreth! Hello there! How are you today?' Rhiunth called in greeting.

His dragon's little spill scared N'kar momentarily out of his wits. He was halfway into the water himself when the little brown assured him he was fine. The boy sighed deeply and returned to E'lon, and Ebony as well as she had joined them. "E'lon... Pleased to meet you. And good to see you Ebony. Hintreth looks well." he said, just managing to catch the shine in the man's eye. He wondered what exactly that meant... "Your Virth makes my little Rhiunth look so small!" N'kar joked, watching the three dragons out in the lake. It was quite the sight, the grown brown and the two hatchlings splashing around.

Hintreth got to the water's edge and stopped dead in his tracks. The water looked inviting yet scary to him, it was much bigger than the baths that Ebony would sneak him into. His own noticed his hesitation when she caught up and reassured him with her thoughts while she caught her breath. 'It is alright love. You will be fine in the water, after all you swim in the baths just fine. This will be no different. Just bigger and deeper.' ,with that he chirped confidently and launched himself into the water with a small splash. 'Eeeeee! Its cold! I like the warm water better!' ,Hintreth squeaked in protest to the cold water but then became distracted when being greeted back by his dragon brothers. Swimming over to them he sent a little wave toward Rhiunth playfully with a cute dragonsmile upon his muzzle.

Ebony laughed at the little blue and his grumbling, she knew he wouldn't like the cold but he would forget it once there was fun to be had. With a giggle of mirth she turned to the boy that introduced himself and smiled her usual sweet smile.

"It is a pleasure to meet you E'lon and I must say your Virth is a pretty impressive brown. Such a gorgeous color he has. And its wonderful to see you again N'kar. Hintreth has been a handful but a joy too." ,a small breeze went by making her short, black hair become a little messier than usual. Ebony reached her hand up to brush it back out of her face only to have the wind pick up and cause her to drop her sketch pad, the pages fluttering in the breeze. She let out a sad sigh. She just couldn't go a day without her klutziness getting in the way could she.

Hintreth touched her mind in concern for her distress but she assured him it was ok. The little runt went back to playing in the water with Virth and Rhiunth. 'This is lots of fun! We should do this more often, right Rhiunth?' ,his eyes whirled a bright happy green with his words.

The pale young girl kneeled down to pick up her drawings before they all blew away. She gave the other two a half smile as she did so. "Sorry...I tend to be a bit clumsy sometimes..."

A'res was trying to dig his heels in on the matter of going down to the lake and socializing, for a change, but apparently Tidaeth wasn't going to stand being antisocial just because his rider happened to fit that description. Along with the dragonified puppy eyes, Tideath begged his rider to come with him. After all, only a heart of steel could refuse.

A'res, A'res, let's go down to the lake! Tidath exclaimed, much in the same manner a toddler would beg to go to the park.

No.

A'res...Here, Tidaeth looked his bonded squarely in the eyes and made a sad face.

A'res's eye twitched guiltily, before giving in to the young blue's demands.

Alright, Tidaeth, we'll go down to the lake. Satisfied? A'res added sarcastically at the end before getting up and walking out the door and down to the lake, Tidaeth at his side the whole way.

When they got there, Tidaeth adressed the other dragons in a very loud voice.

Hintreth! Rhiunth! Virth! Yay! I'm going to swim too!

A'res looked around interestedly at the other weyrlings and the rider, but didn't bother to greet them in any way. Hoping to distract the blue from forcing him to socialize, A'res began hesitantly speaking.

Tidaeth, you should swim, it's good for you. I'll watch.

Mkay...The blue allowed, but then grinned evilishly as he got an epiphany. I'll go swim with the dragons, but you have to socialize. Fair's fair, A'res.

...Alright, you cornered me, Tidaeth.

"Virth is fully grown," E'lon told the young brown Weyrling with a wink. "Your Rhuinth is just out of the shell, after all." He paused, looking out to the lake to watch the young brown. "BUt by the looks of it, he could grow to be bigger than Virth. Virth's actually very small for a brown," Eo went on to explain. "I bet some blues outsize him some days." It was a good thing the brown couldn't hear his rider's very honest comments. He would no doubt have a couple words to say to the contrary. But before E'lon could continue the conversation, pages went flying everywhere. When he saw the blue Weyrling Ebony picking them up, his very rare gentlemanly side came out. "Let me help you," he said as he knelt, grabbing some of the spare pages. He hoped they weren't too dirt-stained.

"These are very good," he told her as he handed them back before standing up. "Do you draw dragons as well?"

Out in the water, Virth was having a ball playing with the young Weyrlings. He had to be very careful around them though, since they were so small and he so large. I do very much enjoy swimming, he told the two young dragons currently in the water with him. I would not mind the company of two noble dragons such as yourselves if you want to join me again sometime. The brown's eyes whirled a very bright green as he spoke, ducking his muzzle under the water to fling a splash back toward Rhuinth in retaliation. To the little blue, he sent a small rolling wave in his direction, just to see how he would handle it. This was probably both dragon's first experience swimming so far away from shore. But they were perfectly safe with Virth. He wouldn't let anything happen to them.

Ho there, little Brother! Virth called out when he noticed another young blue on the shore. Come and join us for a swim! The water feels lovely.

((Sorry for the shortness y'all. They don't feel like being very descriptive with me today.))

N'kar laughed at E'lon's comment. Having been living in a weyr his whole life and spending much of the last few turns admiring the many dragons that called the weyr home as well, he could see the rider's point exactly. Virth was on the smaller side for a brown dragon, but standing beside a hatchling a few days old could make any dragon look big. "Virth may be small for a brown, but he's still impressive. I bet there's a good population of hold folk that wouldn't agree with that description though. And that coloring. I'm not sure I've ever seen a pattern like that on a dragon before..." the weyrling said, watching Virth splash water back at his own brown. "My Rhiunth may have only hatched a few days ago, but sometimes I think he thinks he's fully grown." he laughed, seeing Rhiunth trying to immitate Virth in the water. Maybe he would attatch himself to the older brown for a kind of draconic role model? The thought was somewhat amusing to N'kar, but if that was what the little brown tried to do, it couldn't hurt, right?

A stray page of Ebony's drawings blew right into N'kar's leg. Picking it up, he shot a glance at some of the other pages E'lon was holding. "They are good Ebony. How long have you been drawing anyway?" he asked, holding out the page he had snagged for her to take. That was when he noticed the other blue dragonet that had joined their growing group. He looked around curiously for the dragonet's bonded. Thinking back a moment, he thought he remembered seeing the boy at the hatching at least, but he couldn't remember ever being properly introduced. He waved to the other weyrling. "Hello there, care to join us?"

'Yes yes, swimming is fun!' little Rhiunth agreed happily as he tried to dodge Virth's splash. It was, alas, useless as the water caught his backside in his attempt to flee. His lips pulled back in a draconic grin as he paddled back around again. By now, he had developed a good rhythm for paddling. 'I would love to join you again Virth, and you as well Hintreth. I have never had so much fun in water before! But Mine always says that we will be very busy for a while... Will we still be able to play with you after today Virth?' he asked, sending another small splash in Hintreth's direction.

Catching site of Tidaeth, Rhiunth paused a moment. 'Hello Tidaeth! Good to see you and Yours out to visit! Please do join us, Virth is very fun to play with!' the young brown called back to his blue brother. He turned back and grinned widely at his two friends in the water wth him.

(would have made the last half better, but I kind of ran out of steam halfway through, sorry =/)

Hintreth enjoyed playing with the other dragons in the water, despite being dwarfed by both the browns even though one was his hatchling brother. When Virth sent the wave his way the little blue stretched out his wings and laid his body out on the water, causing him to simply ride the wave. Once passed he popped back up and tried to send a wave of his own towards Virth. Meanwhile Ebony's face was starting to flush at the compliments from both boys, she gave them both a soft smile in thanks for their help and blushed more when she heard the stutter in her reply.

"Th-thank you. I do draw d-dragons...they are my favorite subject. And..um..I've been drawing since I was little...my mother taught me how." ,as all her pages were gathered she stood up and straightened them up again. Ebony looked up to see another weyrling coming their way. She smiled and waved in greeting and giggled when Hintreth nearly flipped in the water just like Rhiunth did while greeting the other hatchling.

((megafail...sorry guys))
