It had been months since the deepest part of winter had set into Aleyeska Weyr and hold. The ice down at Winterdrop Lake had finally cracked and slowly but surely the rivers release set in motion the return of the great waterfalls of Aleyeska. The bowl was alive with flowing water and it was a new site for everyone to wake up to on that particularly warm Spring morning. All of the dragons were frollicing in the beaty, bathing their bodies in the water that pounded down the mountain side and onto their hides, the small bits of granules from ice and sand cleaning their hides with out so much as a brushstroke from their riders. The few flits that enhabited the Weyr were also at full play as the sun rose higher in the sky. The water droplets all seemed like small diamonds falling out of the sky and formed into creeks that rushed along the bowl of the Weyr until they cascaded into the central "river" and down over the side of the main water fall and to the great Winterdrop lake. The pressure from the building water cracked the ice loudly and hailed the official start of spring!
It was a few days later when there had been quite a bit of water run off and the river was almost fully broken up that the Master fisherman made another round to visit the northern interior Weyr of Aleyeska. The sky was bright on that day with not but a few scattered small clouds in the sky that looked as though they had been painted there by a masterharper himself. The green of the land was just starting to spring up here and there and would be about another week before everything suddenly opened up in a glorious display of returning life. The masterfisher was escorted down to the lake by Weyrsteward R'ton and followed shortly there after by D'sol and his blue Binth.
As the blue pair made their way down the large and wide ramp to the Lake, the blue stretched his wings and acted like he was tottering on the edge of the cliff. Not in any real harm as he could of course fly and it was far enough down that he would have plenty of time to catch himself. D'sol jokingly chastized his dragon for being such an overzealous neusance and told him to shape up in front of the Weyrsteward.
Why? I am excited. Today we get to see if there was enough run off for us to play in the lake.
"You don't need to play in the lake right now, the waterfalls clean your hide plenty fine and cool you off just nicely."
Yes, but the lake I can swim in!
"Goof...."
They came down to the "beach" on the lake to where R'ton and the Masterfisherman stood. "So whats the readings say doc? Are we cleared to go?"
The Masterfisher seeing that he had an audience made a great deal of fussing with his little bottles of water and pouring them back and forth and humming and hawing. Finally he stood and hmmm'ed a little more before turning to D'sol and then to R'ton and smiling widely, "Yes, my calculations were correct. You had enough run off water to clear out all but a smidge of the poison, and that smidge will not harm you or your dragons. In fact all that is left is mostly a larger calcium deposit which you can see starting to build up over there on those rocks."
Binth went right over to the Masterfisherman and went to eye level, So we can swim?
The Masterfisherman couldn't help but laughing and neither could D'sol at hearing the blue dragons comment and him being so friendly and just walking right into another mind other than his riders. R'ton just stood there waiting for both of them to calm down before trying to interject but the Masterfisher got to it first, "yes, you can swim!"
Binth bugled triumphantly and jumped high into the air to plunge himself deep into the depths of the lake. He was completely submerged into the lake and bubbles were coming out marking where he was at.
Its very cold still! I like it!
Telgar's plan to thwart the Weyr by cutting off its water supply had failed miserably. They were obviously very short on the fact that running water was easily replaced. As the sun rose to its Zenith and more people received the news that the Lake was once again clean people and dragons flocked in droves. A few of the Harper journeyman and apprentices as well as anyone who could pick up a drum or tamborine brought them down to the lake to celebrate. There was food from what they had stocked over the summer and fresh fish were brought in from down stream where they had started to migrate in. It looked like the looming threat of Telgar was once again set off at bay.... at least for now...
