So it has come to my attention that we have a serious problem in this Weyr. Things are either too rushed for some, making it hard to keep up and keep character development flowing at a good clip. Or things get to slow and meticulous and we vastly drop members if there's not a dragon in the sky or eggs on the sands. As the creator of the Weyr I want to know what can be done about it. Any and all suggestions would be needed to help this problem.

As of now this is the line up for the next month.

Today:
Goldflight started today: Should we postpone this or keep it running? There are a lot of NPC bronzers right now, and if Thai is ok with that then I say we can keep it going but how does everyone else feel about this?

ONGOING: First flight thread for current Weyrlings. We still need people to post in them.

March 21st
Hatching set for March 21st: Be honest. How many of you would leave if you had to wait another month for a hatching on this Weyr?

The plot with Telgar is still happening though you'll have to wait and see what plays out with that. Can't give anything away there.

What other plot suggestions do you have?

--The other main problem we are having is people just dumping threads as soon as a new one starts. By joining a thread you make a commitment to see that thread through until it dies and all members of the thread decide to move on. This is CRUCIAL for character development.
The reason I have kept things going so fast is it seems thats the only way to keep members. So either we keep moving at this pace and continue to have drab and dull unfleshed out characters and plots, or we can slow it down a bit and keep things a little more real. Its ultimately up to you folks but you have to be willing to put the effort forth.

Ok, here is my hardheaded opinion because honestly, I don't consider myself as the best of the best so don't think that, I just have been rping on threads, on messenger, on games for so long that I kinda know what's best but it's only my opinion of whats best so, hear me out. (even tho i am pretty badass when I try :P )

1. If Thai is ok with only NPC's flying her then good for her. I personally hate the idea because if it were me I would want someone I could rp with more than just a flight. But for sake of getting another queen pregnant I can totally understand and appreciate her sacrifice. Besides, maybe she'll get lucky when my lil bronze matures later *winks*

2. I like where the flight thread for the weyrlings is going, nice pace, could be a lil faster but it isn't' rushed and we each get to post what our charas do and I think that is best for development.

3. I think having another hatching by then is WAY too soon. When I first started and had JUST made my candidate, literally days later BOOM there was a hatching. I HARDLY got to really play out my candidate and find out what they were really like and how they acted with others which made me really feel the admins couldn't' really grasp what dragon/hatchling would be best suited for me as they were only going off my chara descrip and I think that is wrong. So I think if you are REALLY serious about this rp you can respect waiting and getting your candidate fleshed out in rping them with the others before the admins decide ok, this person really deserves this and that and this person is serious and that one isn't.

That being said. I feel that way about ANY member in the weyr. While we all like new fresh things to keep a plot going. We should by NO means rush them. If we have something going good atm and then suddenly throw in a thread that happens two days later let's say, people aren't going to want to finish the previous thread as they all want to suddenly post in this newer fresher one. And thus= NO chara development. If you want proof, look at our past threads. There are SO many unfinished ones that had such great potential. But the few that DID get played out to the end those characters are REALLY going well and strong atm.

For example... look at you Saber with R'ton. You started him out as an NPC and hardly played him but when you started playing him more and more and we made him become more important now he is fleshed out more. Or look at you Cleo, with Siff and T'kent... we really got a great chara development going there as we play it out all the way. But on the opposite side, take my chara S'tre for example. His whole sister thread got rushed three times, and that died (not to mention Bri leaving) and then other attempts i made with him or V'rik, those all died as they were rushed and there are other peoples charas I could use too but I don't want to step on toes. I am just trying to make a point and prove that rushing this has already proved NOT good.

So that being said. I say we FORCE people who are serious about rping here and serious about even learning how to rp correctly to take it slow and go our pace set forth as admins. Because let's face it. If you are really serious about wanting to stay here long term you will want to play your charas out too to their fullest as possible. Right? If we keep making things go so fast all the time, how will we know who the heck we are? In the future if it requires us going faster so be it for certain plots, but we cant' keep rushing for the sake of getting new people. If you want to play your candidate then play them!! There shouldn't' be a rush to get your weyrling RIGHT away. Correct?

Kye brings a great many points to the table. I didn't really want to even keep R'ton *and his bronze Rodonth btw.... I've been calling him Belvorith for some reason... hee hee hee... uh yah.... * but now he has been one of my fav's to RP. Along with D'sol who was also actually just an NPC from another beginning thread XD

I'm new here so I don't know a lot about what has happened here before or even how you all work. I don't think that there should be flights/hatchings every month, that sort of makes it un-special. Is that a word? Anyway, being honest I don't care about hatchings. I like my one character and he's one I invented without the hatching thing. But that's just me--I understand why people like characters that get a dragon through a hatching. So, yeah. I'm not really sure if I'm actually saying anything or just rambling. I wish I'd been here longer or I'd been involved in a number of threads, or even had a different character. I just don't really know what's going on. Uh. I like this place so far? Anyway, I don't have an idea for a plot, but I willingly offer up A'rien for any drama you guys invent.

Even though I have yet to get Chris and Zeth in character wise (I've been meaning to get a thread for them going, things keep popping up), I've been actively in four weyrs now and I've seen three of them die. The one thing in common those three had, it seemed to be no one would want to rp with a particular character, or no one would want to do sub-plots; only main plots like gaining a new fire-lizard, wher, or dragon. And when contests were put into to attract either activity or new members, things would go completely smoothly, new members would join, then poof as soon as they got something they did not want.

I'm also noticing people abandoning characters if no one will rp with them. I'm guilty of this in a way, but it was because of the lack of interaction that killed off the characters I had before. They were not developed and no one would rp with me unless it was with my more popular characters (Chris and Zeth seemed to attract just about anyone at Aerten, but they are an oddball pair to begin with).

As for the goldflight, I say go for it. I'll even offer up a blue Zeth for you all if you are need of males. If there are not enough males, what are the admins to do about that other than open spots for NPCs? I'm sure applications for bronzes may work but then that would postpone the flight.

I have no weyrling here, but I remember mine and their flight threads. One went too fast and the other fizzled away. And as for the hatching, when was the first one? I say a good three months apart from the last hatching gives everyone a chance to get into their characters and if they are not active for a long period of time, without a reason, then they should be overlooked in the hatching. I've seen so many people gain a dragon then just dump the weyr like it was trash. Make the members work for what they earn. Nothing should be just handed to us. I made that mistake in my own weyr that died. Don't make that mistake and try to satisfy everyone personally. You have to do it as a whole. If they don't like the color they earned, then the next character they make, they should be overlooked at the next hatching.

Blues and Greens have NOTHING wrong with them. *ends that subject* Not that I've known anyone here long enough or seen the last hatching. Its just from experience and I'm sick of good dragons going to waste because someone either dislikes rping colors below browns or can't stand rping greens because they're the lowest in rank. >_> *a very bad pet-peeve of hers*

Amen to that Chantal! Thank you! My feelings exactly. Make em work for it! And hell to be honest, I was praying for a blue or a brown or both, they are my favs. But I am VERY pleased with my blue, green and bronze.

I'm new here as well, but my opinion still counts!

1. If Thialyn is okay with the lack of bronze chasers, I say go for it! I'm gonna throw my brown, Shavreth, into the flight no matter the number of chasers that are higher rank. I know it's better to have someone RPing the winner so that there can be interesting little plots, so Shavreth is up for grabs. ;)

2. I can't really say much regarding the Weyrling thread, as I have no weyrlings here.

3. Honestly, I would prefer to wait just a little longer on the Hatching. I'm gonna submit my candidate within the week, and for the Hatching to be about 2 weeks later gives me little to no time to really get into character with her.

That having been voiced, I have one thing to say. I would love it if Aleyeska were slowed down a bit when it comes to plot lines. After all, members leave when it gets too slow and when it gets too fast for them to keep up with. My problem is that I simply can't gather the time to be a severely regular poster, what with all the problems I've been having at home. My internet access is unreliable, simply because my fiance's brother keeps unplugging the modem and hiding it. I don't like fast-moving plots because with my current 'net access, I can't keep up with it and end up falling back.

Everyones comments are truly appreciated. These are the sorts of things that I need to hear in order to run things properly. I'm not gonna lie in terms of getting things going I'm still new. To answer a few questions that I found through out:

1. The last hatching was back in October, the Weyr was created in August.

2. Of those who had dragonets from that hatching only myself, Cleoni, Kyesinger that I know of are left.

3. We are currently on our "Second" round of Admins. The first being myself, bree and cleoni. As Bree dissappeared for an extended period of time and I still needed the help I have appointed Thialyn as a new admin.

4. We have our first Mod: Kyesinger, give her a hand please, she's actually the one to voice her opinion on the speed of this weyr first.

5. It has been decided to push back the Queen flight as well as the hatching by a month. After doing some math it was figured out that the current batch of dragonets are 15 months old. In another month IRL time that will make them 18 months in game time, and old enough to rise to chase the queen. This gives Thialyn more of a chance to have more character chasers as opposed to NPC's. This will also give everyone an entire nother month to RP their current candidates and give any of you who wish to create a second one the chance to do so :)

In the future if any of you have concerns about this Weyr please feel free to PM myself, Cleoni, or Thia to let us know We are more than willing to listen and have the overall opinion of those around us. Thank you all once again for your responses!

Sorry I haven't posted before now. Somehow I kept missing this thread. But to put in my late two cents worth. I agree, we need to slow down at least a bit. People are making really good character profiles, but they don't seem to be showing through IC. It's nice to have a good profile, but it's better to actually play the character and flesh them out in a way that just making their profiles won't do.

As far as the hatching, I say we wait but I would suggest we don't wait any longer than another month. Any longer I think you all would get tired of waiting. (I know I would). With another month we'll have time to really play with our characters and develop real relationships between them. Like Kye said, look at my T'kent and her Siffany. They are two very well developed characters and they are personally some of my favorites to play with. We need to have more of these. That way the site will not totally rely on us admins and mods to keep the weyr going by using plots all the time. You members will have such awesome characters that when they do something the whole weyr might end up involved. Meaning you members will be able to shape the way this weyr is going to be as much as us admins do. I hope I"m not rambling too much and that you all get what I'm trying to say.

That's my two cents anyways. I'll stop my rambling now. XD
