Have posted a roleplay(generation one)-related fanmix request here: http://community.livejournal.com/ace_light...9.html#comments

Your input would be very appreciated. icon_syda.gif

It';s... sort of like a fake-soundtrack, put together for a book, movie, series, or whatever else, made up out of songs that you think are appropriate to that series

You remember that thread we have here about "songs relating to characters and relationships"? Well it's basically a CD made up of songs like that.

I'm going to make one for the roleplay. Call it nostalgic of me wink.gif

What on earth is a roleplay!??!?!? I've seen fan websites have people talking about roleplays, but what are they!?!?!
Tell me well and thoroughly what a roleplay is.

QUOTE
The RP, created by Areal Ravendark, was based in livejournal, with each played character owning a journal (I believe the back story was that Chuck suggested it as a way for them all to get used to the human world... if he'd known the trouble it was going to cause he probably wouldn't have bothered). Stories took the form of converstaions in the comments, sometimes jsut as characters conversing online, othertimes we build stories into the comments. Sometimes it got really complicated and we had to coordinate what was going on over msn at the same time. I hear that's common in many RP's...

Scarab's explained it rather well in her reply to me Veritas biggrin.gif
Role-playing is putting yourself in a characters shoes, and writing from their point of view. You and a group of other people pick a character out for themselves and start writing together from their own POV. I don't know if that's explained very well.

A fanmix sounds good biggrin.gif I usually make playlists that inspire me for different series, but I don't know if any of the songs in my Ace Lightning one will be relevant for the roleplay, as they're all based on my comic/story ideas.

Yeah Nat hit the nail on the head there. Roleplay is just what it sounds like - playing the role of charaxcters online. In this case, the Ace Lightning characters. Many of us each had "control" over a certain character, and we interacted and created stories as best we could.

In some ways RP is harder than just writing fanfiction. Occasionally, for example, some of us would be fighting and fightning for a certain point even if we didn't nessecarily AGREE with that point - because we knew it was what the character believed. I remember one time having Mark carry out a certain plotline even though I knew it was a bad idea, because it was concievably something the character would do.

Now does ANYONE have a song they wanbt in the mix? tongue.gif

Wow! That's mad! (in a cool way)
So that's why role-playing is so popular amongst fan bases.
I still need to learn a little bit more
But other than that, I'm fine with joining in tongue.gif

This reminds me of some guy on Youtube who makes music based on sound effects, voices, and anything from a movie to make music. I've only seen one based on 'Hook' but it was very creative.

I've got a bucket load of ideas. Of course I would. I'm a teenager.
The younger ages ALWAYS have a better imagination tongue.gif

SAchem. Are you saying this 22 year old with a BA in animation andesign is NOTas imaginative? tongue.gif

I don't think it's true - the younger don't have a BETTER imagination, (in fact, I think those who gush about kids imagination are full of it) they're just more accustomed to USING theirs. You get out of the habit the older you get, unless you choose not to.

I have to admit I have lost so much of my imagination over the years
But that doesn't mean I don't have an imagination at all. I feel for you older people as you have other things to concentrate about, and with all the stresses in your lives. It must be a pain to the imagination.

Lol. yeah yeah. "the younger don't have a better imagination".
Yes they do. We have more fun than you in life.
And fun contributes to creativity and imagination.
So yeah...

You have the strangest ideas about the world Veritas laugh.gif seriously.
I certainly have more fun now than I did when I was a child/teenager, and the things I conjure up in my imagination aren't nearly as unskilled and contrived as my younger self.

You need only look at almost every last fictional book, show, film, game, etc. out there to know that adults quite clearly have strong imaginations that they're capable of acting upon tongue.gif
But in all honesty, I don't know why I'm arguing this point with you - when I was young I was much the same; 'f*ck the system, kids are better than adults, old people are useless etc.' You'll learn on your own eventually.
Growing up does NOT involve leaving everything associated with childhood behind. It certainly doesn't mean losing your imagination (I'd like to see you stand up to a university crit!).

I agree with you nat. I certainly don't think growing up means leaving childish things behind. Like I've said before, a job I want to do is make movies/ TV shows, and the stuff I've all read done has a big superhero feel to it, which I loved as kid.

So you can get older and still do what you loved as a child!

Exactly. You don't have to just lose chidlhood when you become an adult, it doesn't work that way. A lot of the most creative smart people in the world are those who didn't let GO of their childhoods.

The only "childish" thing people really need to let dgo of is the constant fear ofbeing SEEN as childish. Personally, my theory is that it's that kind of "I must be all grown up and do this stuff or my friendw won't like me and I'll be a baby!!!" attitude which leads to smoking, drinking and generally dumb behaviour in a desperate bid to be seen as credible.

Ofcourse we do have to deal with things like the real world, and jobs, and unviersity degrees, and taxes and etc etc etc . Nothig can change what the pressures of the real world have thrust upon us. But that doesn't mean we just shut down our ability to have fun.

Well, sometimes real life takes up time when I'd much rather be fanficcing, but I say the sacrifice is worth it. And ideas COME from experience, and experience comes in forms both good and bad. It certainly doesn't hurt MY imagiantion (though I do wish I didn't have taxes... damn taxes.) Imagiantion and real life aren't that seperate, really.
