Well, its time to start the Giant reactor electric conversion project.
A lot of you already know about me talking about this project. I thought it was time to start the thread and photos. The first piece of the project, The motor arrived today.....and it is impressive to say the least. It is a Hacker A60-16L. I am waiting on the speed control which is currently on back order. Also waiting on the motor mount which was ordered today......didn't realize I needed it until I opened the box and noticed a certain motor mount was missing. Called Hacker and found out that.......that style of motor mount can not be used with the A60 series motors. To much gyroscopic force and side to side stress would cause catastrophic failure. Ok...first leason learned Here is the first picture....I will be adding photos and updates as this project moves on. Here is a photo of the motor beside the officially calibrated AMAC scale indicator.....and a couple of smaller motors for outdoor and indoor foamies ![]() |

Looks like that beast could be a starter motor from a Toyota! Good to see the beer bottle calibration method continues! An AMAC tradition.

Here is the motor mount that I had to order today. Its a serious piece of hardware on its own.
You can see there is a back plate with a bearing to support the back of the motor ![]() |

thats a good idea on geting a proper mount for electric biggies cause i saw a doit yourselfer in our club launch his electric motor from the front of a trainer electic{about a cobalt 40} while on the flight line and by the way it aint a pretty sight as the plane taxied left , motor shot right 25 feet. these things always seem to happen to the goodenough type of modelers.!!!!!!!!!

Mr Postman delivered the motor mount this morning
Now I can start mounting the motor and ESC. Now if HobbyKing would answer the F#*%ing phone so that I can cancel one item on my order. The order has been sitting there for 10 days because one item is on backorder. I want to cancel that one item so that they will ship the batteries I tried Thursday night, then again last night for 2 hours. Then again this morning from 5 am till 6 while they were still open. NOTHING !!!!! Sent them an email. Hopefully I get through. Anyway, will post some pics tonight once I get started. |

I have gotten a hold of them on their 800 number.
It reroutes directly to Hong Kong. They are 12 hours ahead of us. I called over the course of 2 days, and got them at 11:00pm our time. Try calling later at night- say after 10pm and let the phone ring and ring, they dont pick up after the 5 rings- for me it was more like 15 rings before she answered. |
