| Dear Te Guru, thanks for the excellent report from Auckland that was very interesting. NSW states are halfway thru here in Sydney. First race was at lane cove on saturday and was a bit of a schmozle with most of the fleet missing the start (which was a downwind start off the clubhouse) by miles and raced on the westerly course in a southerly. Then a lot of confusion over the way to round the marks and people missing marks e.t.c. not a great day on the water I thought but I guess the locals liked it they must do if they sail there every week (spoken like a true squady club member eh?). Sunday I thought was much better although still pretty crap unless your thing is sailing round the toilet bowl course with your 3rd rig in a big rig breeze. The whole fleet went 3rd rig in a southerely that faded down to nothing and the folks that could manage to change to bigger rigs in between races got a reward. Michael Spies has bought the roadkill skiff and is sailing it well enough to be leading the regatta which is quite an acheivement considering the good form that Brett Hobson and AJ are in. Nick Press and Yabba are also in quite good form. Even Clewy Dave is going OK in the old Kiroshi. I reckon we dont have a bad Ausie Inters team this year. One thing in our favour we've had some very good club racing and although the states have been very rivery so far the next 3 heats at the squady nest weeked could be fantastic if we get a good NE or a cranking southerly or even a decent esterly big rig breeze. cheers, boco |
